Renee Biran (Carlock) joined My 600-lb Life for season 6 in 2018, and it's time to talk about her journey after the show. The series is a TLC docuseries that follows morbidly obese people who face day-to-day challenges, and work with a doctor to lose weight. Renee traveled to Houston, TX, to consult with the iconic Dr. Younan Nowzaradan. During her visit, she had breathing problems, so she visited the hospital. Renee weighed 631 pounds when she arrived for her appointment with the famous surgeon. Her goal was to lose enough weight to qualify for gastric bypass surgery.

Until January 2020, Biran did a good job of staying in touch with her family and fan base, occasionally sharing inspirational quotes and family photos on Facebook. However, a shocking new update was revealed in January 2020. Before she cut off communications on social media, Renee lost 250 pounds, bringing her weight down to 381 pounds. With a slimmer body, she qualified for the gastric bypass surgery she wanted. Unfortunately, a new health crisis put surgery on hold indefinitely.

In 2020, Renee moved to a nursing home, as she was gravely ill due to battling Guillain-Barre syndrome, which she was diagnosed with in early 2019. Guillain-Barre syndrome is a rare autoimmune disease, whereby the body's immune system attacks its nerves, causing weakness and tingling in the extremities. It can even cause paralysis. The diagnosis put her goal to have another procedure (to remove excess skin) on hold indefinitely. In a public Facebook post on February 25, 2019, Renee shared how she, "dreaded going to a nursing home." However, she added, "Had I known I would get such good care, I would have come...sooner."

My 600-Lb Life's Renee Sadly Passed Away In 2021

Sadly, Renee died, and other My 600-lb Life alums have also passed away. She left the world on May 14, 2021. According to TV Shows Ace, the cause of Renee's death hasn't been released, but it's likely that she passed away from Guillain-Barre syndrome complications. Only three to five percent of patients diagnosed with the disease die from complications, such as blood infections, lung clots, or muscle paralysis. However, her significant weight likely contributed to her Guillain-Barre Syndrome-related health issues.

Renee remains in the hearts of her family, loved ones, and friends. Her death was tragic, and My 600-lb Life star Renee will be missed. She'll never, ever be forgotten. It's wrenching that her story ended as it did.
