Where Do You Recognize The Cast of Mute From?

Duncan Jones' latest movie, Mute, is about to arrive on Netflix, complete with a cast of both familiar and fresh faces. Here's who you need to know.

Mute - Alexander Skarsgård

Director Duncan Jones is bringing his latest movie, Mute, to Netflix. Jones has previously seen success with movies such as Moon, and Source Code, but his 2016 adaptation of World of Warcraft did not impress the critics at all. However, most will be pleased to note that Mute is in a much more similar vein to his earlier projects; in fact, he wrote the movie in 2004 and while not a sequel to Moon, it does exist in the same universe, and Sam Rockwell's protagonist (or at least a version of him) does appear. Mute is set in 2052 in a dystopian Berlin and focuses on Leo, a mute bartender, who is searching for his missing girlfriend. The cast is full of names that you'll recognize, but where do you know them from?

Alexander Skarsgard is Leo

Alexander Skarsgard in Mute

Brother of Bill (IT), son of Stellan (Thor), Alexander is already a well-established TV and film actor, with roles in True Blood and The Legends of Tarzan. You'll also recognize him from playing Perry in Big Little Lies, for which he was recently awarded a Golden Globe. Skarsgard takes on the central role and will be fully reliant on his acting skills since his character is rendered mute after a childhood accident.

Paul Rudd is 'Cactus' Bill

Who doesn't know Rudd? Whether it's as Mike in Friends, Josh in Clueless, Brian Fantana in Anchor Man, or Andy in Wet Hot American Summer, Rudd has a face that's instantly recognizable. Oh yeah, and there's also the small matter of him being Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Rudd plays a shady surgeon in Mute, and will be on the big screen this Summer, starring in Ant-Man and The Wasp

Justin Theroux is Duck Teddington

Justin Theroux in Mute Netflix Movie

Right now, Theroux is best known as the man who's recently announced his split from Jennifer Aniston, but Theroux also has a fairly impressive filmography, with parts in Girl on the Train, Zoolander 2 (which he also co-wrote), and The Lego Ninjago Movie, where he voiced the Evil Lord Garmadon. You will also recognize him from TV, where he's starred in The Leftovers for the past 3 years. In Mute, Theroux plays Duck, a surgeon who is Cactus Bill's best friend and right-hand man.

Sam Rockwell is Sam Bell

Rockwell has one of those instantly recognizable faces; he's had roles in Ridley Scott's Matchstick Men, The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Frost/Nixon, and Conviction to name but a few. He previously played the role of Sam Bell in Moon, in 2009. Rockwell has most recently garnered attention for his Golden Globe-winning performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Florence Kasumba is Tanya

Kasumba is a German-Ugandan actress, and has appeared in a variety of German and Dutch films. However, she is fast rising to prominence across the globe playing Ayo in the MCU. She's appeared in Captain America: Civil War, and is currently setting the screen alight in Black Panther. Later this year, we'll see a return of her character in Avengers: Infinity War. She's also voicing Shenzi in Jon Favreau's Lion King remake.

Sayneb Saleh is Naadirah

Leo's missing girlfriend. Saleh is a German actress, and has so far only appeared in Deutschland 86, and Dogs of Berlin.

Noel Clarke is Stuart

You'll recognize Clarke as Mickey Smith, the long-suffering boyfriend of Rose Tyler in Doctor Who. Clarke has a long and varied filmography, including many writing credits, though none of his acting roles have been as substantial or well-known as Mickey.
