Recently releasing in open beta, Magic: Legends is a free action RPG based on the Magic: The Gathering card game. Allowing players to walk in the shoes of a planeswalker that they can customize, players will find themselves defeating enemies with a robust magic and skill system.

Due to the multiplayer nature of the game, it will not be uncommon to see other planeswalkers once players exit the tutorial area. Even if the other players are not seen, the activity going on in the game’s chatbox will no doubt signify the existence of other players....and bots. Some of which may be spamming untrustworthy promo codes and advertisements. So it would be useful to any new player to become knowledgeable on how to mute chat.

How to Mute Chat in Magic: Legends

Magic Legends Gavony Generator Mission

Unfortunately, the ability to mute chat (or sections of the chat) does not exist in the convenient form of a button or checkable box in the options menu. Instead, players to have to use the chat equivalent of console commands.

Below will be a few notable command lines that will mute chat in one form or another. Take special note to ensure that all spaces, numbers, and underscores are copied to the letter. Ignore the colons and the quotation marks, as they are simply a means of formatting this article.

  • “/whitelist_chat 1”: Will mute everyone in chat that isn’t on the player’s friend list. Keep in mind that using this command will make it difficult for anyone new to get in contact with the player.
  • “/whitelist_chat 0”: Will undo the effects of “/whitelist_chat 1”, thus making it so the player will once again hear everyone in chat.
  • “/channelleave zone”: Will remove the player from the chat in that specific zone. To reverse this command, players will have to know the specific name of the zone they silenced.

The good news is that the developers are already aware of the spam problem and have made it so players are automatically put in an instanced chat instead of the global chat. With any luck, the game developers will later implement a mute feature in a future update or quality patch. Preferably by adding in a toggle or by adding the option somewhere in the settings menu. But for right now, these commands are the best the player has access to.
