This article contains spoilers for Fate: The Winx Saga season 2.Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 saw Musa choose to reject her powers. Based on the popular Winx Club animated series, the world of Fate: The Winx Saga is one of powerful fairies who possess a wide range of different abilities. The central character, Abigal Cowen's Bloom, is a fire fairy who has inherited an ancient power called the Dragon Flame, one not seen for a thousand years with the power to tear entire realms apart.

There are six different types of fairy: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Light, and Mind (the Greek elements plus two). Mind magic is naturally the least tangible, because it revolves around thoughts, memories, and dreams. Elisha Applebaum's Musa is the main mind fairy, and in Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 Rosalind claimed she was the most powerful of them all at Alfea. Rosalind sought to use Musa as a key weapon in her battle against the Blood Witches, because Musa could protect specialists' minds from being taken over. Events took a different turn, however, and by the end of Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 Musa had chosen to reject her powers outright.

The Blood Witches had launched a sophisticated plan, using creatures of dark magic to strip fairies of their powers and give it to their leader, Sebastian. Placed in a combat situation, Musa decided to allow her powers to be taken, finally giving her peace from sensing the emotions of all those around her. This didn't mean she wanted to abandon the fight, however; she may have chosen to have her powers taken, but she still wanted to be on the front lines by training in combat as a specialist instead. She proved herself more than capable during the final battle; although her powers were restored after Sebastian's death, she chose to have them suppressed again. Musa wants a life without her magic.

Why Musa Gives Up Her Magic Powers In Fate: The Winx Saga Season 2

Fate The Winx Saga Musa

Most of the characters of Fate: The Winx Saga consider their powers a blessing, but Musa had tended to view them as a curse. Where other fairies need to activate their magic, Musa's powers operate at an instinctive level. Because she is an empath, this means she cannot help but sense the emotions of everyone around her. She is familiar with every turbulent emotion, every moment of anger or passion, every fear or insecurity. This feels overwhelming at times of heightened tension, meaning the rise of Rosalind and the building conflict with the Blood Witches has been exhausting for her. Musa's relationships have been shaped by her powers, simply because she has been naturally drawn to people whose emotions are quiet and still; but in Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 she comes to realize that kind of peace can only be temporary.

Fate: The Winx Saga essentially explores themes of self-realization, notably in Terra's subplot, which fixes season 1 problems. In Musa's case, the prospect of restraining her magic gives Musa the opportunity to live the life she chooses, rather than the one she is born into. Her story serves to remind the fairies and specialists that a person is defined by their character, not by their powers. It's pleasing to see such a positive message in Fate: The Winx Saga season 2.
