Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston tease their plans for Murder Mystery 2 in a funny new video. The first Murder Mystery was released in 2019 as a Netflix exclusive production and garnered more than 31 million views, making it another successful venture for the comedian on the platform. The film follows a married couple (Sandler & Aniston) who embark on a European vacation to rekindle their relationship, only to find themselves embroiled in an actual murder case. The comedy was the second team-up for Sandler and Aniston, who previously worked on the 2011 comedy Just Go With it.

Sandler has continued his comedy career on Netflix, making it the residency of his comedy features. However, he's branched out of late in some dramatic fare, including The Meyerowitz Stories and Uncut Gems. Aniston recently reunited with her Friends co-stars for the Friends reunion on HBO Max and is now into her second season on the dramatic series The Morning Show on Apple TV. Both actors have found a balance between comedic and dramatic fare throughout their careers, but it appears now they'll be teaming up again for the laughs.

In a new video via Inbar featuring both stars on a zoom-style call, both Sandler and Aniston tease their way to the announcement of Murder Mystery 2, with the promise of fewer murders and lots of travel. Joining the stars in the video call is David Spade, who pops up to invite himself to crash at their beach house while they make the sequel. The actors carry on the conversation as if it were an actual call between them but ultimately reveal that it's a set-up for what fans can expect from the sequel, which boils down to more of the same, maybe with a little more Spade. The sequel will be directed by Jeremy Garelick with a script by Garelick and original writer James Vanderbilt. As with the first film, Murder Mystery 2 is expected to lean into the travel aspect with locations like Paris and the Caribbean, with production potentially kicking off this fall for a 2022 release. Sandler is currently filming the sports dramedy Hustle with Ben Foster and Robert Duvall for director Jeremiah Zagar, while Aniston is prepping to star in the biopic about Miss USA turned sports manager Denise White in Hail Mary.

While some will scoff at another Sandler comedy sequel, the actor/comedian has found a niche showing massive staying power, particularly on Netflix. The venue has allowed Sandler to continue his brand of comedy without dealing with theatrical success or failure, bringing his fanbase precisely what they want. Sandler has an uncanny ability to draw great talent into his films as well, giving them a chance to step off the beaten path and have some fun, which is probably why Aniston is apt to team up again, given the heavy dramatic work she's enduring on The Morning Show. It may not be an impending classic, but Murder Mystery 2 will no doubt scratch the laughter itch for those who enjoy Sandler's brand and keep the wheels turning for more.
