Thankfully The Muppets are almost in theaters, because the PR campaign for the film - which started off brilliantly with a string of movie trailer spoofs - is, I dare say, dangerously close to wearing out its welcome.
That's not to say that today's crop of Muppets posters aren't as whimsical and amusing as their trailer counterparts, it's just that at this point, this is all beginning to feel a little too familiar...albeit a cute, Muppet sort of way.
The plot of the new Muppets movie involves Gary (Jason Segel, who also co-wrote the script), his girlfriend Mary (Amy Adams) and brother Walter (a Muppet) discovering that Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) wants to drill under the Muppet theater for oil. To save the theater, Gary, Mary and Walter set out to find the Muppets who have been split up for years: Kermit lives in his own mansion depressed in Hollywood; Gonzo is a high class plumber at Gonzo's Royal Flush; Fozzie performs with a tribute band called The Moopets; Miss Piggy is the plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris; and Animal is at a celebrity anger managment rehab center in Santa Barbara.
Now that you know what the actual Muppets movie is about, three guesses which popular teenage movie franchise phenomenon they're taking down a peg in these new posters:

An easy target if ever there was one, and once again the minds behind The Muppets manage to hit the bullseye. Or should we say 'manage to hit the bullseye again,' seeing how they already took a shot at Twilight in the so-called final parody trailer - the one that came before the Bollywood parody trailer.
