A lost song from The Muppet Christmas Carol is being re-added to the movie. Released in 1992, Muppet Christmas Carol became one of the most popular reiterations of the classic Charles Dickens tale. Starring Sir Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge, The Muppet Christmas Carol totes a musical soundtrack that remains a staple with fans during the holiday season. However, while viewers of the VHS version experienced the scene featuring "When Love Is Gone," the ballad was removed from the theatrical version, as well as most DVD and Blu-ray versions, due to producer Jeffrey Katzenberg feeling the song was too mature for a young audience. Now it appears the lost song has been found.

Per BBC, The Muppet Christmas Carol director Brian Henson reveals "When Love Is Gone" has been added to the remastered version of the film. Explaining that the video master of the song was originally lost in the process of cutting it for the cinema release, Benson declares he was reluctant to remove the song in the first place. At this time, Benson is unable to guarantee if the full-length version will release on Disney+ in time for Christmas.

Belle and Scrooge in Muppet Christmas Carol

Sung in Christmas pasts by Scrooge's fiance Belle (Meredith Braun), "When Love Is Gone" is the pivotal turning point for Ebenezer Scrooge. While the scene presents itself sans the song in the theatrical cut and DVD versions smoothly, viewers who were treated to Paul Williams’ song in the VHS version noted a remarkable difference in the storytelling. Of course, two decades later, it appears all future versions of The Muppet Christmas Carol will be experienced the way Henson originally intended.
