Rob Zombie shared a photo of a creepy castle that will be a filming location for his upcoming film The Munsters. Although the project is still horror-related, it will be the lightest tone the director has ever tackled. Zombie, who is best known for his music career and participation in the heavy metal band White Zombie, began directing films with 2003's House of 1,000 Corpses. That film's over-the-top and gruesome atmosphere has carried through his other work, including the 2007 Halloween remake and its sequel, all the way to his latest film, 2019's 3 from Hell.

The Munsters will be his second time tackling a reboot of a classic franchise, this time the classic sitcom of the same name that originally ran from 1964 to 1966, which tells the story of a family of monsters living in suburbia. The show was previously rebooted on television as The Munsters Today, which ran for three seasons starting in 1988. That was followed by several failed reboot attempts, including an NBC remake titled Mockingbird Lane from Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller, a Seth Myers-produced series, and a movie from the Wayans brothers. This new Rob Zombie adaptation of The Munsters will be a feature film set to debut simultaneously in theaters and on NBC-Universal's streaming service Peacock.

On Instagram, Rob Zombie shared yet another behind-the-scenes glimpse at the making of The Munsters. He is currently location scouting in Budapest, Hungary and shared an excellently creepy shot of a castle that will be used as a major location in the film. It's an imposing structure perfectly framed by spiky trees that will create an excellently creepy atmosphere for the monstrous family. Check out the image below:

The Munsters will be bringing all the classic characters back to life. Parents Lily and Herman Munster, who are a vampire and Frankenstein monster respectively, will be played by Sheri Moon Zombie and Jeff Daniel Phillips. Lily's father, Grandpa will be played by Daniel Roebuck, and though the actors playing Eddie and Marilyn Munster haven't been announced yet, the cast also includes Richard Brake, Sylvester McCoy, and Catherine Schell.

It has been quite some time since The Munsters has graced screens large or small, so many fans remain curious about the tone Zombie will strike with his film. It's the first project in quite some time that genuinely feels like it will be completed, and Rob Zombie certainly seems like an odd fit at first blush. Once production begins in earnest and footage begins to be shared with the public, people will be able to get more of a handle on exactly what this version will feel like and decide whether or not they're on board.
