Brendan Fraser's Rick O'Connell killed a LOT of mummies in The Mummy trilogy. 1999's The Mummy had a long road to the big screen, with the project starting as a smaller, horror-focused remake of the Universal Monsters classic. Filmmakers like George A. Romero and Clive Barker developed takes, but it was Stephen Sommers who landed the job. His pitch merged The Mummy with Indiana Jones, and a surprise box-office smash was born. In addition to receiving two direct Mummy movie sequels - 2001's The Mummy Returns and 2008's The Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor - the trilogy also received a spin-off saga with The Scorpion King movies.

While the reception to The Mummy sequels was (rightfully) mixed, the 1999 movie is fondly regarded. A big part of that is down to Fraser's endearing performance as protagonist Rick O'Connell, with the role combining the actor's talent for physical comedy and action. Rick also racked up a major bodycount of both human characters and mummies throughout the series - though whether a mummy can technically be killed since they're already dead is another question.

Fraser's Rick Kills A LOT Of Mummies

Rick and Evie face a hoard in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

For a goofy summer blockbuster, The Mummy - which has a complicated timeline - has a horrific killcount. According to All Out Of Bubblegun, the bodycount of the original is over 250. Human characters tend to die in nasty ways too, including being melted by acid or eaten alive by scarabs. For most of the runtime, Rick is either slaying attacking humans or those possessed by villain Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo). During the finale, he and his friends are attacked by Imhotep's resurrected mummy priests. By the time the credits roll, Rick has dispatched 57 of them via shotgun, dynamite or sword. He also slays the (briefly) resurrected Imhotep.

The Mummy Returns again sees Rick mostly battling human foes, though an early chase has him dispatch another Imhotep priest via shotgun. During the finale of the Brendan Fraser horror movie, he's attacked by an army of cannibal pygmy mummies; he uses a double barrel to take down two, and a well-placed stick of dynamite destroys another 22, bringing the killcount for Rick up to 25. Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor sees Rick taking down 35 Terracotta mummies during the finale. His final kill is Jet Li's Han, who is slain after being stabbed by Rick and his son Alex. So across the trilogy, Rick "killed" 118 mummies in total.

Could The Mummy 4 Still Happen?

Brendan Fraser Mummy 4

While The Mummy 3 was a success, its grosses were noticeably lower than the first two. While a fourth Mummy dubbed Rise Of The Aztecs was developed with Fraser set to return, this was later canned and the series rebooted itself with Tom Cruise's failed franchise starter The Mummy in 2017. With Fraser on the verge of a comeback thanks to The Whale, it feels like the odds of The Mummy 4 are better than ever. He's confirmed he's open to returning, and a legacy sequel would be a nice throwback to an older era of blockbuster filmmaking - it's just a question of studios seeing the value in it.
