MultiVersus may be more cooperative at its core compared to other platform fighters like Super Smash Bros., but MultiVersus' competitive angle is just as interesting considering its variety of characters. The game had its own tournament at EVO showing off what battles are like at a higher skill level, and theoretically the game should continue to improve from a competitive standpoint. The tournament consisted of 2v2 battles, so it may be the case that certain fighters perform better in that mode as opposed to a 1v1. Regardless of what mode played, a virtually endless debate will likely persist about which fighters stand out from the rest.

After the recent update that added Morty Smith from Rick and Morty to MultiVersus’ roster, many characters' viability changed based on buffs and nerfs. Many players who just started playing the game after its open beta launch may have said Taz and his MultiVersus Tornado attack was among the most powerful characters. The Tasmanian Devil’s iconic whirling Tornado move is very spam-able, and has significant stun duration and knockback. After Taz received nerfs, he fell in line with many other MultiVersus characters in regard to power level. His fellow Looney Tunes representative, however, remains near the peak.

No matter where players look, everyone’s favorite cartoon rabbit, Bugs Bunny, is usually in the higher tiers of MultiVersus' fighters, if not in a tier of his own. MultiVersus also has its own leaderboards for players to check their rankings and those of other players. As of writing, the top player for 2v2 battles is a Bugs Bunny player with a total of 2,653 MMR. According to EventHubs, during MultiVersus' EVO appearance, a majority of the participants had Bugs Bunny on their team for 2v2 battles. The only character to be picked more than the Looney Tunes mascot was Velma - another MultiVersus character that could use a nerf - who would primarily be used in conjunction with Bugs. The EVO champions used neither of these characters, but the fact that the Bugs Bunny and Velma were used so frequently shows how dominant they can be as a duo.

MultiVersus' Best Fighter, Bugs Bunny, Is Difficult to Master

Bugs Bunny is currently the best character in MultiVersus.

Although Bugs and Velma are very strong characters in their own right, there is another fighter that’s worth mentioning. Finn the human from Adventure Time is also in contention for being the best character. For 1v1s, this very well may be the case, his range with his sword, his backpack move, and his ability to purchase buffs and move while charging make him a fierce opponent. That being said, these three MultiVersus characters are top in their respective classes, and have varying skill gaps, with some fighters being more approachable than others. Tom and Jerry is another fighter that can be deadly in the right hands, the character has a combo that can loop and bring opponents to high percents very quickly, but it is very difficult to pull off. Bugs Bunny has something very similar up his sleeve that combines different types of aerial moves and is also incredibly difficult to pull off. Considering all of this, MultiVerus’ strongest character is Bugs Bunny.

Bugs’ aerials are devastating, and his mobility options are excellent. Unless a Bugs wastes all of his cooldowns, dodges, and jumps, nine times out of ten the character will make it back to the stage thanks to his ears that work like a helicopter. This means players have to instantly KO him to ensure a point for their team. In MultiVersus Bugs' strategy involves spawning random items by simply crouching, and on top of this, he can stun opponents, slow them, heal allies, become invincible by burrowing into the ground, and can launch any of the various projectiles he can spawn out of his burrows for mix-ups. The character has so many tools at his disposal, and against a good Bugs Bunny player, victory becomes a huge uphill battle.

In MultiVersus, characters with the highest skill ceiling at the moment tend to be mage-class characters. Bugs Bunny and Tom and Jerry both fall under this character typing, so it's no surprise they're labeled as expert fighters in-game. Rick Sanchez a new MultiVersus character coming in season one, and he is also going to be a mage. It’s possible that the smartest man in the universe could take the throne as the strongest fighter in the future if mages continue to impress.
