The less nihilistic half of the infamous reality hopping duo, Morty makes an appearance on the Season 1 roster of Warner Bros. platform fighting game Multiversus. In contrast to other fighting games, MultiVersus has taken a free-to-play approach. Players can choose to spend in-game currency on alternate unlockable costumes, new ring-out animations, and even characters. Completing missions and challenges contributes to Gold, which accumulates enough to purchase characters, though players can always use the built-in microtransactions to buy premium items or members of the roster.

After launch in July, MultiVersus has released new characters as part of their Season 1 collection, including NBA legend LeBron James. Along with Morty, additional characters like Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty, Gizmo and Stripe from the Gremlins movies, and Black Adam from DC Comics are planned to be released within Season 1. With such a wide background of characters to rival even Nintendo's Super Smash Bros, every character MultiVersus could add no doubt would shake up the roster with varied gameplay styles.

Morty himself is listed as a Bruiser that emphasizes a term called Horizontal. This means that players are encouraged to use Morty to control space rather than raw knockout potential. With attacks that have a wide range to them, Morty can lock opponents into traveling the screen in a way that best suits him. Taking a cautious approach from mid-range instead of closing in too often could combine with Morty's perks to create a pseudo-zoning nightmare.

Best Moves and Strategies For Morty in MultiVersus

With multiple projectiles that set up for additional obstacles when combined with each other, Morty combines those tools to be expected from the Bruiser class with special and normal attacks with a wide reach to control space around foes. Here are some of the best moves available for Morty:

  • Aw Jeez, More Snakes!, Up + Attack - Morty will fire a large projectile that explodes into two snakes that travel to the left and right of the screen. Although there is a cooldown before using it again, this move has high potential to knockout enemies
  • It's A Grenade, I Think, Special - A relatively simple timed projectile, Morty can interact with his grenades through other moves that can remotely detonate or multiply the explosive to do extra AoE damage.
  • Another Portal?, Side + Special in the air - Receiving armor, Morty teleports through a portal that lingers on the field, increasing the speed of any ally's projectile that passes through it for a time. This makes Morty a strong force in 2v2 battles.
  • Uh, Auto-Pilot?, Up + Special - Morty calls in a spaceship that acts as a platform while traveling upward. Capable of locking both friends and foes alike in its awkward shape, a sneaky player might use this to trap foes near the top of the screen as the ship takes them away for a free knockout.
  • Temporal Back-Up, Down + Special - Creating a saved position on the field, Morty will warp back to that spot after a time, healing in the process and leaving a Grenade where he originally left. Allies about to ring out will also warp to Morty should the save point still be active at that time.

In addition to some of the best universal Perks in MultiVersus, Oh That's Still a Grenade is one of Morty's three signature Perks that unlock after leveling up, increasing the damage radius of all his explosives. Allies will automatically change the grenade to its maximum potential.

MultiVersus is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
