Just a few months after making her debut in the franchise, star Iman Vellani opens up about Ms. Marvel will bring The Marvels together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel. Vellani previously made her MCU debut with the Disney+ show Ms. Marvel as Kamala Khan, the superhero-obsessed Pakistani-American teenager who gains cosmic abilities after coming into possession of a magical bangle with ties to her family's past. Ms. Marvel followed Kamala as she struggled to find a way to be a hero to her Jersey City community, while also learning the origins of the bangle and the mysterious Clandestines, a group of magical beings from an alternate dimension trying to return home.

The Ms. Marvel finale curiously saw Kamala magically transported away from her bedroom to an unknown location, with Brie Larson's Captain Marvel switching places with her and appearing confused at the situation. This is set to lead in to The Marvels, a sequel to Larson's Captain Marvel movie that will also see the return of Teyonah Parris' Monica Rambeau after WandaVision, in which she acquired cosmic-like abilities after venturing through The Hex. While plot details for the MCU film are largely unknown, one star is teasing how the characters will interact with one another.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Iman Vellani shared some insight for what's to come from The Marvels. When asked about the group's dynamic, the Ms. Marvel actor explained how her character would help bring the group together for the MCU sequel, as well as keep them united. See what Vellani shared below:

I think she has certain expectations about what this teamwork should look like, you know, from the comics and all these stories that she hears about the Avengers. So, it's not exactly what she dreamed it was gonna be, so I think Kamala's kind of the glue of the group and holds these guys together.

Ms. Marvel Will Be Important In Keeping The Marvels Together

Vellani's tease that Ms. Marvel will be important in keeping the group together comes on the heels of the first The Marvels footage screening at the D23 Expo, which teased a humorous dynamic between the three characters in the same vein to the three webslingers in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The footage also offered the first explanation of how Carol and Kamala switched places, with the latter ending up in space and being found by Nick Fury while Monica, working aboard the S.W.O.R.D. space station, is transported to an alien planet and attacked. Given Kamala is best known for her adoration of superheroes, especially that of Captain Marvel, it's understandable she would try to be the glue to keep The Marvels together in the film.

Despite the younger incarnation of the character adoring the MCU hero, WandaVision curiously saw Monica Rambeau holding a distaste for Captain Marvel, a plot point she teased would be further explored in The Marvels. With Vellani now indicating that Ms. Marvel will be key to keeping the trio together, it seems likely the new hero will have to act as a mediator between her counterparts and bring them closer to take down the undisclosed villain. Only time will tell when The Marvels hits theaters on July 28, 2023.
