Marvel Studios debuts a new Ms. Marvel trailer offering a look at the newest hero joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in her own series. Created by Bisha K. Ali, the miniseries will introduce audiences to Kamala Khan, a 16-year-old Muslim Pakistani-American from Jersey City and Captain Marvel super fan who becomes imbued with shape-shifting powers. Iman Vellani will lead the cast of Ms. Marvel as the titular heroine.

Alongside Vellani, the cast for Ms. Marvel includes Saagar Shaikh, Aramis Knight, Matt Lintz, Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapur. Development was first announced in mid 2019 with Ali attached as the series' head writer while Vellani was announced a year later and Bad Boys for Life duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah attached to lead the directing team, which includes Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Meera Menon. With production having officially wrapped earlier this year, audiences are as eager as ever to get their first glimpse at Ms. Marvel.

Given much of the show's details have been kept largely under wraps, the new Ms. Marvel trailer is sure to come as an exciting tease for those curious about the upcoming series. The video may not reveal too much of the story of the series, but it does offer some nice glimpses as to the nature of Kamala Khan's powers, as well as new ones not previously seen for the character. In the comics, Kamala learns she has Inhuman genes following the release of Terrigen Mists throughout the world activating dormant Inhuman cells and giving her shapeshifting abilities, leading to her donning the mantle of Ms. Marvel after her idol Carol Danvers takes on that of Captain Marvel.

The new Ms. Marvel trailer seemingly indicates her powers will extend to a similar energy absorption and manipulation akin to that of Danvers' Captain Marvel, with the colorful shot of a powered-up Kamala looking near identical to Danvers' transformation in the Brie Larson-led film. With Kamala's story set to continue in The Marvels alongside WandaVision's Monica Rambeau, it makes sense the writers behind the series would try to find a happy medium in a similarity and difference in powers for its titular heroic trio. Only time will tell how Kamala gets her powers and how they may be different from the comics when Ms. Marvel hits Disney+ in Summer 2022.
