Ms. Marvel director, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, confirms reshoots for the upcoming Disney+ series with some new set photos. The series is scheduled to premiere in 2022 on the respective streaming platform, with filming for Ms. Marvel having already concluded last year. Earlier this year, speculations around the reshoots and delay of the Disney+ series were surfacing on social media, with nothing definitively being confirmed.

Created by Bisha K. Ali, the series will follow the Marvel comic book adaptation of Ms. Marvel, also known as Kamala Khan, played by Canadian actress Iman Vellani. After being caught in the Terrigen bomb, Kamala gained the superhero abilities to alter the shape and size of her limbs, which is referred to as being able to “embiggen,” in reference to a term in 1996’s The Simpsons. The comic book series was co-created by editors Sana Amanat and Steve Wacker, and the titular character is Marvel’s first Muslim character to headline as the protagonist hero in her own central story. Recently, Amanat shared the pressures and responsibilities she felt to adapt the titular hero on-screen as the executive producer.

On Instagram, Ms. Marvel director Obaid-Chinoy revealed the set photos of the Disney+ series on her stories, confirming the reshoots are occurring in Atlanta, Georgia. One of the set photos showcases a telescopic handler assisting in lifting the infrastructure for filming, captioning it with a sticker that says “play time.” Obaid-Chinoy also shared photos of the director’s chair on set, again confirming that the series is undergoing reshoots. Check out the images below:

Since the teaser announcement and first look at the upcoming hero in the MCU, many fans were disgruntled by the apparent changes of Kamala’s superhero abilities, removing her abilities of elasticity, shapeshifting, and size alteration powers. Considering the origins of Kamala’s powers, many were concerned about how her powers seemed to be the carbon copy of Carol Danvers’ (Brie Larson) energy construct and absorption abilities. In the original comics, Kamala shape-shifted into her idol Captain Marvel and carried the name, Ms. Marvel, but her abilities were different from Danvers,' which made her unique in her own way.

Many are speculating that the reshoots are occurring due to the backlash from fans, disappointed in the major changes of Kamala’s powers. Despite the reshoots for Ms. Marvel, the series is still slated to be released later this year. This will not be the first time Marvel has undergone reshoots at the last minute, with Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness still having more work to do after the wrapped reshoots, before the film’s awaited release in May. Therefore, Marvel fans should not be distressed yet, as the series is still expected to release as scheduled.
