Warning! Spoilers for Ms. Marvel: Beyond The Limit by Marvel Comics

In a recent promotional image for the upcoming Ms. Marvel show in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the hero's powers are seemingly changed. Instead of being able to embiggen, it seems the show will give Kamala Khan construct powers similar to the Green Lantern. Now, Marvel Comics is hinting Ms. Marvel will be getting a similar power change in the comics.

Marvel recently showed off new teaser images for the upcoming Ms. Marvel show on Disney+ starring Iman Vellani. In the image, Kamala Khan seems to be ditching the stretching powers she's known for in the comics for some sort of energy-based powers. While Marvel hasn't officially confirmed the power changes, the show appears to be giving her abilities a pretty significant change to streamline them to the MCU. Considering Ms. Marvel is an Inhuman in the comics, Marvel could be changing her powers to make her closer to Captain Marvel. The online reaction to the potential power changes has been mixed with criticism that it changes the character's story too much and impacts her origin's journey of self-discovery.

In a new preview for Ms. Marvel: Beyond The Limit by Samira Ahmed and Andres Genolet, Marvel Comics revealed what's coming next for Kamala Khan in the comics. The synopsis for the series reveals that the hero's world will be turned upside down and that her powers "are on the fritz" following an explosion of "interdimensional proportions" at her cousin's lab in Chicago. Ms. Marvel Powers

Ahmed told Entertainment Weekly that she's excited to explore Kamala's unique powers in a new way. She said the creative team is "pushing" Ms. Marvel's powers and exploring questions surrounding them, including where they come from.

Her powers are a metaphor!" Ahmed says. "How many people have had those awkward moments as a teen where you wake up one day and start thinking, 'Wait, are my ears too big for my face?' Andrés is bringing the story to life in such a cool way. Fans that have been there from day one will love to see how we're playing around with her powers, exploring them, and maybe pushing them. I think it's cool for her to examine them a little bit. I don't want to give any spoilers, but there are gonna be some questions that arise about the source of her powers and what that means.

The article from Entertainment Weekly even poses the question of whether her powers will stay intact now that Inhumans aren't a main focus in the comics anymore - which is a fair point considering other potential changes. While Ahmed hasn't said Kamala's powers are for sure changing, the fact she mentions they're pushing them in a new way and that the comic will examine their real source of them suggests changes could be coming to the character's abilities. Will the interdimensional explosion change Ms. Marvel's powers going forward to match the MCU? It could explain how her abilities become different.

Ultimately, Marvel Comics could be making zero changes to Ms. Marvel's powers and we could be reading too much into the comments about the upcoming series, Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Limit. However, considering Marvel Comics characters, origins, and powers have become more and more streamlined to fit the MCU recently, it's certainly possible changes are being made to Ms. Marvel in the comics as well.
