Warning: SPOILERS for Ms. Marvel episode 2.

Ms. Marvel episode 2 proves that Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally realizing Nick Fury's original Avengers dream. Ms. Marvel episode 2 has added further intrigue to the mystery of Kamala Khan's origin, family, and the bracelet that unlocked her powers. Additionally, it has revealed more of Damage Control's purpose in the show. Damage Control's presence in this episode in particular references Nick Fury's original Avengers plan.

Toward the end of Ms. Marvel episode 2, Kamala is forced to don her Captain Marvel cosplay once more so that she may save a young boy who is dangling from one of the mosque's high towers. Luckily, Kamala has a better handle on her powers than she did in the last episode, after a fun training montage with her friend Bruno earlier in the show. Kamala manages to save the boy, but before she can get him to safety completely, her concentration is disturbed by a vision of a woman who later turns out to be the mother of Kamala's crush, Kamran (or so it seems). Though Kamala still manages to save the boy in the end, it was a clumsier rescue than she had hoped for. Before she can catch her breath in the alleyway behind the mosque, however, Damage Control suddenly ambushes her and Kamala only manages to get away with Kamran's help.

The MCU's Damage Control seems to have taken on a more extensive role than its comic book counterpart initially did. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Damage Control went after Peter Parker and his friends, and now, in Ms. Marvel, Damage Control seemingly wants to capture and interrogate Kamala Khan. In Marvel's first Civil War comic arc, Damage Control ended up being responsible for the evaluation and training of registered super-humans. It's possible that this is the direction that the MCU's Damage Control is leaning toward as well, which would explain to some extent why they came after Peter Parker so harshly, and why they're coming after Kamala now. The interesting thing about Damage Control's methods in this second episode of Ms. Marvel, however, is that they closely resemble Nick Fury's original Avengers plan: using repurposed tech in order to fight "enhanced" targets.

In the MCU's first team-up film, The Avengers, Nick Fury's plan becomes clear. Though his initial hope for the Avengers Initiative was "to bring together a group of remarkable people", he didn't have much luck until Agent Coulson's death forced the original Avengers to come together to take on Loki's Chitauri army. The opening scenes of the film demonstrate what Fury's initial plan was once he realized it wouldn't be as easy to bring the Avengers together as he had hoped. Instead, Fury decided to use repurposed HYDRA tech and the power of the Tesseract to create weapons that could defend the Earth against hostile enhanced individuals. Thor himself and Loki's Destroyer, for instance, both posed such a threat, and Fury hoped to be able to arm S.H.I.E.L.D. with superior weaponry in case they couldn't rely on the superheroes that had made themselves known to the world. Though the Avengers did eventually come together as Fury had hoped they would, he didn't truly give up on his dream of using repurposed tech to defend the Earth from outside threats. The helicarriers that Steve Rogers and his team destroy in Captain America: The Winter Soldier were a continuation of that original plan.

What's interesting about Damage Control is that they are using a very similar strategy. However, instead of HYDRA or any kind of alien tech, Damage Control has opted to repurpose Stark Drones as seen in Spider-Man: Far From Home to help them target and catch enhanced individuals. It's the same idea that Fury had, though perhaps taken to a less extreme extent. Luckily, Kamala manages to destroy some of the drones and hitch a ride in Kamran's car. But the danger of Damage Control using tech like this is real - just like Fury didn't realize someone else was behind the creation of the helicarriers, something more sinister could be behind Damage Control's use of these drones as well. Hopefully, the next episode of Ms. Marvel will explain what Damage Control is really involved in.
