Where Ms Marvel Goes At The End Of The Finale

Kamala Khan mysterious disappeared at the end of Ms. Marvel. Marvel followed one shock with another when it wrapped up Kamala’s six-episode journey in Ms. Marvel. Immediately after the show confirmed that Kamala is the MCU’s first mutant, the MCU pulled a second twist by spiriting her away and replacing her with Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers.

The finale’s two big twists are crucial to the MCU’s long-term and immediate future. It may take years for the X-Men connection to play out, but the Ms. Marvel finale’s post-credits scene is directly tied to one of the MCU’s upcoming Phase 4 movies. Whatever happened to Kamala and how Carol took her place is sure to be vital to the story of The Marvels, where the two characters are expected to form a superhero trio with WandaVision’s Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). Obviously, Kamala’s bangle is at the heart of what comes next for the characters. It seemingly triggered the predicament that Kamala and Carol have found themselves in at the end of Ms. Marvel episode 6.

Interestingly, what’s happening with these two heroes isn’t without comic precedent. In the 1960s, the original Captain Marvel wore a pair of bracelets called the Nega-Bands that trapped him in the Negative Zone. When teenager and classic Hulk sidekick Rick Jones found a matching pair of the Nega-Bands, he formed an interdimensional link to Mar-Vell that made them unable to coexist in the same time and place. Whenever Rick banged his Nega-Bands together, the two would instantly swap places. He would subsequently become trapped in the Negative Zone whereas Mar-Vell would be free to roam Earth for a few hours. Based on the similarities between their respective dilemmas, what happened to Mar-Vell and Rick appears to be the Marvel Comics story the MCU is drawing inspiration from with Carol and Kamala.

Marvel's Negative Zone & MCU Future Explained

Introduced in Fantastic Four #51 in 1966, the Negative Zone is a mysterious dimension discovered by Reed Richards. During his research into this unique realm, Mr. Fantastic came to understand that the Negative Zone is a place made up entirely of anti-matter. For the most part, it appears to be a vast and empty wasteland, when in reality it’s actually the home of numerous Marvel aliens. Adventures set in the Negative Zone led to the introduction of two major villains, Blastaar and Annihilus. The latter was already the subject of several MCU rumors, and thanks to Ms. Marvel’s Negative Zone setup, is now the character with the best chance of being The Marvels’ villain.

The Negative Zone is a major comic book location and one that could easily become relevant to more than just one MCU movie. Annihilus is an incredibly powerful, Thanos-level threat capable of spreading mass destruction across the universe, so if he isn’t in The Marvels, it’s possible that whatever happens in the movie will result in him gaining his freedom and returning as the villain of The Avengers 5. And since the Negative Zone has important connections to the Fantastic Four, the dimension could be a plot device in their movie as well, with Blastaar and Annihilus both being villain candidates.
