Merchandise for the Ms. Marvel Disney+ TV show reveals Avengers tourism in the MCU takes fans to Wakanda, Sokovia, and upstate New York. Created late in 2013, Kamala Khan—better known to the world as Ms. Marvel—was envisioned as an everyman hero after the pattern of Spider-Man. She was Marvel's first Muslim-American superhero to headline her own comic book, making her a welcome step forward for the publisher in terms of diversity. She'll soon make her official MCU debut in a Disney+ TV series, with teenage actress Iman Vellani cast as Kamala Khan.

Excitement is building for Ms. Marvel ahead of the show's premiere on Disney+ on June 8, and tie-in merchandise is giving viewers a greater sense of the world Kamala Khan inhabits. Where Moon Knight is self-contained, Ms. Marvel will serve as something of a celebration of the MCU to date; Kamala is a fan who gains superpowers, after all, meaning her decisions will be heavily influenced by the example of the Avengers. Ms. Marvel is known to kick off when Kamala attends AvengersCon in New Jersey, providing plenty of merchandising opportunities for Marvel Studios in the real world.

Two new merchandise listings on Amazon (2) (via The Direct) tease a global tourist industry in the MCU that has developed around the Avengers. Referred to as "Avenger Tours," these offer trips to Sokovia, Wakanda, and upstate New York. These three locations are strongly associated with the Avengers; Sokovia was destroyed in the third-act battle in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the fictional African nation of Wakanda is home to King T'Challa and was site of a major battle against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, and the last location is presumably a tour of the ruins of the Avengers Compound. This presumably fits in with hints New Asgard has become a major MCU tourist attraction as well. Check out the tourism adverts on new Ms. Marvel merchandise, below:

The tours are frankly rather odd, given one of them is to a wasteland devastated by Thanos and his army, while another is to the crater left after the Avengers' battle with Ultron—a disaster the Avengers were blamed for, leading to the United Nations establishing the Sokovia Accords. Presumably, the trip to Sokovia also includes the Sokovia Monument visited by Baron Zemo in The Falcon & the Winter Soldier. From an in-universe perspective, this tourism seems rather tasteless, and it's possible Marvel intend to use it to shine a light on the more toxic and problematic aspects of fan culture.

The most problematic issue, though, is the idea of Wakanda becoming a tourist attraction. Wakanda may have revealed itself to the world after the events of Black Panther, but that doesn't necessarily mean it would embrace the tourist industry; there are pronounced links between modern tourism in Africa and the history of colonialism, everything opposed by the culture and history of Wakanda. Again, hopefully Marvel intends to subvert the tourist industry as a criticism rather than play this straight; if the studio choose the latter, then Ms. Marvel has probably made a misstep.
