Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani has shared how she met Loki star Tom Hiddleston during the production of the currently airing Disney+ series. The actress stars as the young Marvel hero in the latest Phase 4 series. Ms. Marvel debuted on Disney's streaming service on June 9th, 2022.
Making her MCU debut in Ms. Marvel, Vellani stars as Kamala Khan, a young high school student who has grown up in a world where superheroes are a real and ever-present part of everyday life. As such, Kamala has embraced Marvel's heroes, creating videos recounting the Avengers' adventures and creating cosplays inspired by her favorite hero, Captain Marvel, for an Avenger fan convention. Vellani is a massive Marvel fan herself and has gone from simply being a fan to becoming a key figure in the universe, just like like Kamala. Recently, Vellani shared her own story of how she met one of the MCU's most recognizable faces.
In an interview with JOE, Vellani shared a story about her first meeting with a fellow Marvel star during the production of Ms. Marvel in Atlanta. During filming, she asked the head of security why she hadn't seen either Tom Hiddleston or Tom Holland while on set, as filming for both Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home were filming nearby. Following her inquiry, Vellani was told that Hiddleston would like to meet her, with Vellani stating that though she was nervous about meeting the Loki actor, Hiddleston was kind to her as they worked on their respective series. "My first week in Atlanta, we shot Ms. Marvel right next door to Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home. And I've been there two weeks and I go to Marvel's head of security, and I'm like 'Yo Barry, I've been here two weeks, I haven't met any of the Toms yet!
"He comes back 15 minutes later and says 'Tom Hiddleston wants to meet you'. I came to work in my pyjamas that day! It was terrifying but he was actually the sweetest guy ever and he ended up living in our apartment! We worked out with Tom Hiddleston! We ran into him at the gym and suddenly we were all doing reps together."
Between joining discussions about the MCU's multiverse numbering and sharing her own dream cameo hopes, Vellani's own experience as a fan has been endearing to watch as the star promotoes her own Disney+ MCU series. In an interview in June 2022, Vellani revealed that she had pushed for a cameo by the Inhuman's giant teleporting dog, Lockjaw, in the Ms. Marvel series, stating that she enjoyed his and Kamala's friendship. Vellani also revealed that when she accepted the role, she promised Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige that she would not accidentally reveal spoilers, referencing Spider-Man star Tom Holland's now-infamous reputation for letting slip secrets about projects before their official release.
While Vellani has also worked with Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris on the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel The Marvels, her story of meeting Tom Hiddleston is sure to resonate with many longtime MCU fans. Hiddleston is one of the longest-running stars currently working in the MCU following his debut in Thor, and his portrayal of Loki has captured a large fanbase. In fact, many fans can likely relate to Vellani's nervousness when meeting him. Like Kamala herself in Ms. Marvel, Vellani has gone from being a fan to becoming an active part of the MCU, making her the perfect actress to understand Kamala's journey.
