The MCU perfectly paid off a long-running Guardians of the Galaxy Star-Lord insult in Ms. Marvel episode 1. Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is determined to be known as the “legendary outlaw” Star-Lord throughout the Guardian of the Galaxy films. However, despite his determination to be famous, he is constantly shot down by being unknown in the universe.

Marvel's Peter Quill is first introduced to the MCU when he is dancing on Morag and attempting to steal an orb, which is revealed to contain the Power Stone. At this point, he claims to be a Junker, and his Ravager clothes are “just an outfit” but his history with the Ravagers is quickly established. His initial indifference to helping others or having strong morals is quickly established as he tries to become famous for being an outlaw. However, a moment in Ms. Marvel shows he managed to achieve his dream, even if it was for saving the universe and not for being an outlaw.

Ms. Marvel perfectly pays off a Guardians of the Galaxy Star-Lord insult by referring to Peter Quill as Star-Boy, becoming another time Marvel has changed Star-Lord's alias as a joke. Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) attends AvengerCon in Ms. Marvel episode 1 which confirms the Guardians of the Galaxy are famous. There’s even a documentary series on Peter Quill: The Peter Quill Star-Boy Story. Referring to Peter as "Star-Boy" continues the running gag of his self-chosen alias Star-Lord never catching on and it traces its origin back to the first Guardians movie.

Peter Quill; Star Lord; Star Boy; Space-Lord

When Peter first announces his name is Star-Lord in a very dramatic manner to Korath (Djimon Hounsou), Korath responds “Who?” in confusion. It becomes the start of the running joke about Peter’s inability to create a name for himself. It is continued in the movie when the Guardians are arrested and detained by the MCU's Nova Corps. As each Guardian is identified and brought up on the system, it can be seen that, under "alias," Peter is referred to as “Space-Lord.” Clearly, Peter is not enough of a threat for the Nova Corps to pay close attention to him, showing he doesn’t have the reputation of an infamous outlaw he so desires.

Unfortunately for Peter, even though Korath finally gets his Star-Lord name right later in Guardians of the Galaxy, the new Peter Quill documentary in Ms. Marvel shows his alias never fully caught on. He managed to become famous and all it took was saving the universe to be recognized among the most famous Avengers. However, it seems by the Star-Lord insult continuing into Ms. Marvel, the MCU has no intention of abandoning the Guardians of the Galaxy gag that's been so funny for years.
