Warning! Spoilers ahead for Ms. Marvel episode 1, "Generation Why"

The first episode of Ms. Marvel opens with the MCU openly admitting it knows everyone's biggest issue with Captain Marvel (Brie Larson). Seeing as how Ms. Marvel's Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) is a major fan of Captain Marvel, it's only natural that she would want to defend her hero and her status following the events of Avengers: Endgame. However, even within the MCU, it seems there are some pretty big question marks when it comes to Carol Danvers' Cosmic Avenger.

The MCU Phase 4 films following Avengers: Endgame have indicated that once the Battle of Earth was won, Captain Marvel just went back to space. However, the reasons why were unclear. Was there something in particular she needed to do or someone who needed help more than mankind? One would think that Earth could use a hero like Carol in the direct aftermath as Earth was trying to rebuild. It's something that many Marvel fans have had a problem with when it comes to how Captain Marvel was handled in the last Avengers film. Captain Marvel has always chosen space over Earth, leaving for space after her solo Captain Marvel origin film as well as during the five-year Snap following Avengers: Infinity War.

However, Ms. Marvel episode 1 features Kamala Khan as the primary defense for these criticisms. In her social media video about Carol Danvers, Kamala notes the complaint about Captain Marvel that many people living in the MCU itself have, feeling as though Danvers abandoned Earth and its people. However, Kamala doesn't subscribe to that theory while still admitting that the public doesn't know what she's been up to since Endgame, stating, "Maybe she just needed a break? Can't a girl just live?" As a result, it certainly seems as though Captain Marvel fans of the real world and MCU are united in wanting to know what exactly Carol Danvers has been doing.

Unfortunately, any kind of real reason for Captain Marvel's absence from Earth isn't offered beyond Kamala's more humorous ideas in her video depicting Captain Marvel as an alien ruler, running laps on the rings of Saturn, or joining an alien fight club. While the real answer shouldn't have been expected (at least not in Ms. Marvel episode 1), it's nice that the questions are being asked and that the criticism exists in the MCU as well. It's becoming a part of Captain Marvel's overarching narrative as opposed to being something Marvel Studios just ignores.

The odds are strong that Captain Marvel herself will appear at the end of Ms. Marvel, serving as a set-up for Kamala Khan's confirmed role in The MarvelsAs such, it will be exciting to see if Carol herself will reveal any new details. There's no way that Kamala won't have a plethora of questions to ask her hero and idol when they finally meet. At any rate, seeing Kamala becoming her own hero in the interim looks like it will be a lot of fun as Ms. Marvel continues.
