The first images from Mrs. Davis highlight Betty Gilpin as a nun at war with artificial intelligence. Even in a crowded television landscape, with new shows debuting all the time featuring big stars and top-notch creatives, Mrs. Davis drew a lot of attention as it hails from Young Sheldon writer Tara Hernandez and Damon Lindelof, who is known for his work as the showrunner of Lost and the creator of HBO's Emmy-winning Watchmen adaptation. Gilpin's involvement in her first leading role in a drama series since the abrupt cancelation of GLOW is another draw that bolsters the wild premise.

According to Deadline, Peacock has unveiled the first images of Mrs. Davis, which tease a battle between nuns and artificial intelligence. In the photos below, Gilpin looks ready to fight, reminiscent of her action star turn in The Hunt. But she isn't the only one, as another photo shows her character surrounded by the rest of her flock. Other images demonstrate the strange series yet to come, as it will have its Peacock premiere on April 20. The photos are included in the gallery below, along with a message from Mrs. Davis herself:

Hey there, Partner.

Do you mind if I call you partner? Of course you don’t — because addressing you as such creates a bond of reliance – while also engendering trust between us and eradicating any sense of independence on your part because independence is bad. Independence is LONELY.

And you, partner – are not alone. No siree. Not as long as I am here…

And who am I? Well, I am the one who is going to remind you of your value. Of your worth. While also mentioning that you look mighty fine in those jeans. Aww. That’s nice to hear, right? Of course it is. Which is why I have amassed billions of Users the world over. Because I provide validation, gentle guidance, and unconditional care. Not to mention I give Users – I mean partners – the chance to earn Wings by performing Quests!

What are Wings exactly? Well, you’re going to have to become a User to find out! But, let me tell you – they are pretty great. Because I am pretty great. Though, not everyone would agree. Yes, despite being the most popular Algorithm in the world – there are those actively plotting my demise. One such detractor is a nun – a Sister Simone of Reno who rejects my very existence. Something about my intention to enslave all of humanity…or whatever…

Which is utter nonsense — as I desire no such thing. I only desire to make humans happy. I want to make YOU happy. And that is why I highly recommend you become a User yourself. Yes, your life could use some adventure, some escape – a hearty laugh and a cathartic cry. All of which you will experience if you join me on this Quest. And what do you have to lose?

Do it. Do it. Dooooo it.

Your partner,

Mrs. Davis

What To Expect From Peacock's Mrs. Davis

Roar Episode 3 With Betty Gilpin

Mrs. Davis is described as an exploration of faith versus technology, chronicling an epic battle that pits the biblical against the binary. Gilpin will play a nun named Simone, who does battle against an all-powerful Artificial Intelligence known as "Mrs. Davis." She's joined by several familiar faces, including What We Do in the Shadows alum Jake McDorman as Simone's rebellious ex Wiley. Margo Martindale, known for her work on The Americans and seen recently in Ryan Murphy's The Watcher, and Station Eleven actor Andy McQueen also star.

The recurring Mrs. Davis cast includes Scream star David Arquette, Elizabeth Marvel, Chris Diamantopoulos, Ashley Romans, Tom Wlaschiha, Mathilde Olliver, and Evil's Katja Herbers. Behind the camera, Hernandez serves as the showrunner. She co-writes, and executive produces the series, which consists of eight episodes, with Lindelof.

It's too early to tell if Mrs. Davis will be a hit. But as Peacock has canceled several shows and continues its search for a big and buzzy hit that will position it to better compete with HBO Max and Disney+, this inventive sci-fi mashup could well have the pedigree to break through and make an impact. At the very least, these first images promise a unique experience.
