It's high time now for Sam Esmail's Mr. Robot to be considered as one of the best TV series of all time. The unique storyline is gripping as it is, but when one adds Rami Malek's masterful performance (as Elliot Alderson) to it, it makes for a very successful recipe. Add to it, the scintillating sound effects, and the incredible cinematography and you have two more reasons to see this chaotic tale.
Mr. Robot released its fourth and final season in 2019, following Elliot's progress after he reversed the Five/Nine Hack in the season 3 finale. It's the show's best season yet and in this list, we are going to rank every episode from Mr. Robot's final bow.
"Gone" (8.4)
The tenth episode of season 4 takes it a little easy after an incredible ninth episode. The one hour focuses upon Dominique and Darlene, as they deal with the repercussions of bringing down the Deus Group. It's another solid episode focusing on character development and the viewers get to see very little of the protagonist, Elliot.
"403 Forbidden" (8.8)
The third episode of season 4 finally gives the viewers a detailed look at the origins of Whiterose, the psychopathic antagonist of the series. She was in love with someone but when their love wasn't accepted by society, her lover killed himself, and thus, Whiterose was born.
It's so similar to Elliot's story, isn't it? Both of them hate society but Elliot has got friends, people he cares about, while Whiterose only cares about herself.
"402 Payment Required" (8.9)
In the second episode of season 4, it's all about Elliot and Darlene trying to evade their near-certain death. With their services no longer required, Whiterose and The Dark Army are going to come after them, which means they have to stay closer than ever.
And in this episode, the two, seemingly, bond after a very long time. This is the closest Elliot got to having a normal brother-sister relationship with Darlene.
"404 Not Found" (8.9)
The fourth episode of season 4 picks up pace as The Dark Army circles around Tyrell and Elliot. Elliot wants to drain The Deus Group's money but Olivia's clearance level isn't high enough.
That's not the least frustrating thing Elliot encounters, though as Tyrell, quite foolishly, says out loud that he and Elliot are working against Whiterose. That sets a chain of events in motion, which are both chaotic and absolutely hooking.
"406 Not Acceptable" (9.2)
In the sixth episode of season 4, Elliot does what no one would have liked. He plays with Olivia's trust and mercilessly blackmails her, using her son as bait. The funny thing, it's not Mr. Robot who came up with this idea, instead, he was against it.
This episode sees Elliot become into a monster we all knew he was capable of being. It's truly a devastating one hour to watch. Also, Dominique, working for The Dark Army, is sent to her toughest mission yet - killing Darlene.
"408 Request Timeout" (9.3)
In the eighth episode of season 4, the focus is on Dominique, for a change and it's a very tense episode. The Dark Army has something over her and she values the safety of her family, so she has to follow Janice's orders.
But, turns out, she was playing Janice all along, and actually, she was trying to give Darlene some time before she could reunite with Elliot and bring down Whiterose.
"401 Unauthorized" (9.4)
The first episode of season 4 gives the viewers a shocking moment they didn't see coming. While it was obvious that Angela was spiraling downwards, her death in the season 4 opener came as a major surprise.
Darlene couldn't take her death, though, as she felt somewhat responsible for it. But the real culprit here was Price as he let Whiterose do it. Meanwhile, Elliot is going after The Dark Army and he wants to end Whiterose, for good.
"EXit" (9.6)
The eleventh episode of season 4 takes this series in a completely different direction, like in a parallel world. It seemingly confirms Whiterose's suspicion of there being an alternate reality, where everyone is living happily, unlike the world she lives in. It's a welcome change of pace, to be honest as we get to meet with the extrovert Elliot who is all about to marry Angela.
"Whoami" (9.7)
The penultimate episode of season 4 sees this alternate reality play out with the Elliot we know from the other world. He is absolutely stunned to find out what's going on in this reality, as he meets his mother and father.
And finally, the long-awaited confrontation between him and the Elliot from this world happens, which leads to a devastating moment no one saw coming.
"405 Method Not Allowed" (9.8)
The fifth episode of season 4 sees Elliot and Darlene try to pull off an almost impossible mission that will put them in bad books of The Dark Army. In a breathless episode, emotions run high as the brother-sister duo try to accomplish their biggest task yet.
If Tyrell's death in the last episode wasn't enough of a thrill, this one hour is an absolute barnburner.
"409 Conflict" (9.8)
The ninth episode of season 4 felt like the series finale as it was frantic and it finally brought about an end to the Deus Group. This was coming, especially after Whiterose killed Elliot's best friend.
Darlene and Elliot came together to bring down their single biggest enemy. This episode also features a lot of nostalgic moments, like paying homage to the Fsociety.
"407 Proxy Authentication Required" (9.9)
In one word, the seventh episode of season 4 was epic. It took place in Krista's apartment and yet, it was visually stunning to watch. Vera's obsession with Elliot is understandable because it's with him that he has felt the most alive but the revelations about Elliot's past came out of the blue. Elliot was made to confront his demons and Rami Malek nails every single frame.
"Hello, Elliot" (9.9)
The series finale is a fitting end to one of the best mystery series of the last decade. It's absolutely perfect in every way and it stays honest to its twisted nature, giving the viewers a couple of shocks along the way. Sam Esmail created one of the most complex characters in Elliot Alderson and he succeeded in telling his story.
