Season 3 of Audience Network’s Mr. Mercedes gets an official trailer that puts Brendan Gleeson’s Bill Hodges on the trail of a new murderer, one who has a literary legend in his sights. As one of the better adaptations of Stephen King’s work, the television series from David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies), which also features writing from acclaimed author Dennis Lehane, is also the crown jewel in AT&T’s Audience Network, despite its lack of widespread availability.

Nevertheless, season 3 looks to move past the original story of Brady Hartsfield (Harry Treadaway) following the massacre he committed in season 1, and the terror he inflicted via his hospital bed in season 2. As such, the new season is set to explore the lingering fallout of Brady’s reign of terror, and the consequences of his actions. Most notably, that will come down on series standout Breeda Wool (GLOW) as Lou Linklater, who finds herself in legal and supernatural trouble as Brady continues to haunt her both literally and figuratively.

While Brady is still a figure in the Bill Hodges story, season 3 will revolve primarily around the murder of famed author John Rothstein (Bruce Dern). The trailer doesn’t exactly hide who the killer is, as Morris Bellamy (Gabriel Elbert) is seen conspiring with Kate Mulgrew (Orange is the New Black), trying to sell Rothstein’s unpublished manuscripts in the wake of is death. Check out the trailer and synopsis for Mr. Mercedes season 3 below:

“When beloved local author John Rothstein is found murdered, Hodges, Holly, and Jerome, along with local police, must track down his killer. But this case is more complex than the cold-blooded killing of an American icon. Unpublished novels of Rothstein’s were stolen from his home, and they are worth millions. As the case unfolds, the trio learns that although Brady may be gone, his depravity lives on in the lives of his victims.”

The new season sees a small change behind the scenes as Kelley is joined by Jonathan Shapiro (Goliath), with Jack Bender returning to direct. Season 3 also welcomes Stranger Things co-star Brett Gelman to the fold as Roland Finkelstein. With that cast, and the fact that the series has managed to improve upon the source material, Mr. Mercedes is even more deserving of a wider audience. Perhaps now that AT&T has merged with Warner, the series will  sneak over to HBO Max next year, making it easier for fans to get a quality Stephen King fix.
