The Batman (2021)

June 25, 2021
PG-13
Action, Crime, Drama

Plot is unknown at this point in time.

This is the latest solo movie for the Batman character, and was originally envisioned as a standalone vehicle for Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne within the shared continuity of the DC Extended Universe. Affleck initially singed on to write and direct (in addition to starring), but vacated the director's chair following the disappointment of Live by Night. Matt Reeves replaced Affleck in 2017, and there were countless rumors that Affleck would also not star in the project. Reeves' goal is to tell a story that taps into Batman's standing as the world's greatest detective.

In January 2019, The Batman was officially dated for release in June 2021 and it was confirmed Affleck would not return in the lead role. Reeves will cast a younger actor to play Bruce Wayne.

Plot details are unknown at this point in time.

Warner Bros. and DC first brought Suicide Squad to the big screen via a blockbuster film in 2016, which broke box office records, despite receiving mixed reviews. A sequel had always been planned, with original director David Ayer returning. However, Ayer later left Suicide Squad 2 so he could work on Gotham City Sirens, and WB hired Gavin O'Connor for Suicide Squad 2. Unfortunately, progress continued to stall due to the fast-tracking of the Birds of Prey spinoff.

In 2018, James Gunn (who had been fired from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) was brought on to write the script. It was revealed in January 2019 that Gunn was also in talks to direct. The intention with The Suicide Squad is for it to be a franchise relaunch with mostly new actors and characters.

Grossing $1.6 billion, Universal was quick to green light a sequel, Fallen Kingdom, which will be released in the summer of 2018. It has long been said the filmmakers envisioned Jurassic World as a trilogy.
