Joker (2019)

Plot kept under wraps. Film will center on how the popular comic book villain known as The Joker came to be.

The film first entered development in late 2017, with Warner Bros. confirming that it would be part of a new line of films separate from the already established DC Extended Universe. With Martin Scorsese as producer, originally Leonardo DiCaprio was eyed for the role, but Joaquin Phoenix landed the part. The Hangover director Todd Phillips will call the shots, conceiving Joker as a gritty origin story that depicts the Joker's days as a failed comedian.

The Crow (2019)

A film reboot of The Crow franchise, which revolves around Eric Draven: a musician who, along with his girlfriend, is brutally murdered, only for him to come back as a vengeance-seeking specter.

The reboot was based at Relatively Media for several years and went through multiple directors and actors, before finally moving over to Sony in September 2017. Director Corin Hardy became loosely attached to the project in 2015, with Jason Momoa lining up to star in 2016. In March 2018, Sony announced that the film would be hitting theaters in Fall 2019.

Zombieland 2 (2019)

Columbus, Tallahasse, Wichita, and Little Rock move to the American heartland as they face off against evolved zombies, fellow survivors, and the growing pains of the snarky makeshift family.

This is the sequel to the 2009 comedy Zombieland, which grossed $102.3 million worldwide at the box office and received widespread acclaim. A followup was planned for a number of years, but didn't really gain traction until 2016 when co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were revealed to be penning a script. Sony finally gave Zombieland 2 a green light in July 2018, announcing that the original cast would be returning. Principal photography began in January 2019.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)

The complex relationship of Maleficent and Aurora continues to be explored as they face new threats to the magical land of the Moors.

This the sequel to Disney's 2014 hit Maleficent. It was first officially announced in 2015 and Angelina Jolie's return was confirmed in 2016. After the supporting cast was filled out, production began in May 2018. Filming concluded in August of that year.

The film was originally scheduled for release in 2020, but Disney moved it up to October 2019. In March 2019, the movie received its official title.

Fox acquired the rights to A.J. Finn's novel in 2016, but the project didn't really pick up steam until 2018 when Joe Wright was announced as director. Later in the year, the film attracted a star-studded cast that included the likes of Amy Adams and Gary Oldman (among others). Principal photography began in August 2018 and ran until October of that year.
