Kingsman: The Secret Service introduced the world to Kingsman – an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In Kingsman: The Golden Circle, our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world.
Director Matthew and co-writer Jane Goldman continue to tell the tale of Gary ‘Eggsy’ Unwin (Taron Egerton) in the sequel movie, Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Also returning to reprise their roles are Roxy (Sophie Cookson), Merlin (Mark Strong), Princess Tilde (Hanna Alstrom), Charlie Hesketh (Edward Holcroft), and Harry Hart (Colin Firth).
Harry, who appeared to have died in the previous film, Kingsman: the Secret Service, reappears with an eye patch. He is shown fighting alongside his protégé Eggsy in some scenes shown in the movie’s trailer.
A new bad, called the Golden Circle, is headed by Poppy (Julianne Moore). The group poses a worldwide threat. Charlie, who has been at odds with Eggsy since their training days in the first film, has become one of Poppy’s henchmen.
When the Kingsman headquarters are destroyed Eggsy, Roxy, and Merlin meets with the organization’s American counterpart, called the Statesman. There they meet Ginger Ale (Halle Berry), Tequila (Channing Tatum), Whiskey (Pedro Pascal) and Champagne (Jeff Bridges) who they have to work with in order to save the world. The two groups should find a way to work together to achieve a common goal despite their differences.
The movie is loosely based on the comic book series, Kingsman: The Secret Service created by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. The comic book is published by Icon Comics as part of the Millarverse. The comic series was previously just called The Secret Service when it was released in 2012. However, after the first movie was released, later printed versions adapted the movie’s title along with some other things. Among those changes in the comic book derived from the movie would be the reference to the elite secret organization as the Kingsman, instead of M16.
Originally slated for release in June 2017, fans of the comic and the movie are now happily anticipating the premiere of Kingsman: The Golden Circle on September 22, 2017.
