Ant-Man (2015)

  • Rating: PG-13

Biochemist Dr. Hank Pym uses his latest discovery, a group of subatomic particles, to create a size-altering formula. Though his first self-test goes awry, he develops an instrument that helps him communicate with and control insects, something he must pass down to his unlikely apprentice, Scott Lang.

Former S.H.I.E.L.D. scientist Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) is alarmed when his protégé Darren Cross (Corey Stoll) announces his near success in replicating his shrinking technology. Representatives from HYDRA are looking to buy the suit that could cause massive destruction and Hank must find a man who can successfully infiltrate a tightly guarded facility.

Ex-convict Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), who happens to be a brilliant systems engineer, was lured into a test designed by Hank and his daughter Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), which he passed. After rigorous training which included the manipulation of a technologically advanced suit, control of ants and physical fighting skills, Scott becomes the new Ant-Man.

Together with Hank, Hope, and his friends Luis (Michael Pena) and Dave (Tip Harris), Scott must fight with Darren who has perfected his version of the suit called the Yellowjacket.  Also included in the cast are child actress Abby Ryder Fortson who plays Scott’s daughter Cassie, actess Judy Greer as the estranged wife Maggie and actor Bobby Canavale as her new husband Paxton.

Just like other Marvel Cinematic Universe franchises, Ant-Man is based on a comic character created by Stan Lee. Rudd also was also part of the writing team together with Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish, and Adam McKay. The film was directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige.

The movie also features actor Anthony Mackie’s Falcon who Ant-Man got into a fight with while trying to infiltrate the Avenger’s headquarters. Ant-Man would soon join him on Steve Roger’s (Chris Evans) team in the movie Captain America: Civil War.

Filming for the sequel Ant-Man And The Wasp is currently underway and as the title suggests he will be joined by Hope as the Wasp. The upcoming movie is scheduled to hit theaters on July 6, 2018.
