The Best Movies And TV Shows Coming To Prime Video In April 2024

A New Season From Unforgotten, The Oscar-Winning The Holdovers, And The Premiere Of Fallout Arrive

Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain (2023)

A quirky new comedy from some of the recent Saturday Night Live standouts hits Prime Video on April 2. Please Don't Destroy is a comedy group made up of Martin Herlihy, John Higgins, and Ben Marshall. The trio have made a name for themselves with their absurdist pre-taped bits on SNL in recent years. They take that unique brand of humor to their first movie, The Treasure of Foggy Mountain which follows three friends who seek out a legendary treasure in their hometown.

Fans of the Please Don't Destroy skits will surely have a lot of fun with this bizarre and silly comedy. It is a movie that never takes itself too seriously and hopes that the audience will go along with the wacky antics. There are also some fun supporting roles such as Conan O'Brien as Marshall's father, John Goodman as the movie's narrator, and a brief but hilarious cameo from Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo.

Unforgotten (2015-) - Season 5

A British murder mystery series returns for a new season on April 8. Unforgotten is a gripping series that started in 2015 and follows London detectives who dig up clues on past cases, hoping to bring them to a close after years. The show has a similar premise to the American crime series Cold Case, but it has the sharp writing and strong acting that fans have come to expect from British crime shows.

It is interesting to look at the typical murder and disappearance cases seen on shows like these from a new point of view. While it is not a race against the clock to find the killer before they get away, there is a lot of excitement in trying to piece together a case that so many people forget about. The show returns for its fifth season with new cold cases to solve.

The Exorcist: Believer (2023)

A legacy sequel to a horror movie classic arrives on Hulu on April 9. The Exorcist: Believer picks up decades after the events of the original movie and follows two girls who go missing only for their parents to find them days later. While the families are happy to be reunited, they soon discover that the girls are behaving strangely and they seek out help from someone who has had experience with exorcisms.

The sequel comes from David Gordon Green following his success in bringing the Halloween franchise back for an updated trilogy.

The sequel comes from David Gordon Green following his success in bringing the Halloween franchise back for an updated trilogy. While The Exorcist: Believer was meant to kick off a new trilogy, the poor reception may have put those plays in danger. The sequel The Exorcist: Deceiver is currently in question, but The Exorcist: Believer may still be an interesting way of revisiting the old horror classic and introducing it to new fans.

Fallout (2024)

Following the success of The Last of Us on HBO, Prime Video hopes for similar results with its own post-apocalyptic video game adaptation coming on April 11. The show takes place in a future in which the world has been reduced to a post-nuclear war wasteland. Taking place in the remains of Los Angeles, it is the story of those who have survived, including mutants and bandits.

The series comes from the team behind Westworld while featuring a cast led by Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins. Despite the bleak premise of the show, it looks to do justice to the dark sense of humor that was a big part of the games. It looks to be another big-budget Amazon Prime Original that has a lot of potential.

The series is a new story set within the continuity of the video games.

The Holdovers (2023)

An Oscar-winning comedy-drama comes to Prime Video on April 29. The Holdovers stars Paul Giamatti as a tough and unlike teacher at a boys' boarding school in Massachusetts in the 1970s who is stuck looking after all the students who will have to stay on campus during the Christmas break. This eventually leads to him stuck with only one solitary student with the two forming a bond as outcasts in the world.

The Holdovers recreates the feel of a 1970s comedy-drama to great effect.

Along with the nice Christmas vibes of the movie, The Holdovers recreates the feel of a 1970s comedy-drama to great effect. Giamatti is wonderful as the lead character who is abrasive to his students but compassionate and caring to others. Da'vine Joy Randolph steals the show in her Oscar-winning role as the school's cook dealing with her own heartbreak. It is a funny, sweet, and poignant movie that was hailed as one of the best of 2023.
