Movie adaptations of video games are extremely popular, and regardless of their quality, they are generally massive successes, as seen by the newly released Sonic the Hedgehog already passing the first movie's entire US box office gross. However, while movie tie-in games were once more common, they're no longer as prevalent as they once were.

However, some Redditors have pointed out movies that have great potential for a truly original video game with creative mechanics. While some of these popular franchises have dabbled in games before, fans are looking for more direct adaptations that are more closely tied to the source material.

Cast Away (2000)

Chuck counts down the days he has been stranded in Cast Away

Cast Away follows Chuck Noland, a lone survivor of a plane crash who lives on an uninhabited island for four years, and he uses only what is available on the island and some washed-up FedEx parcels to live. Given that Cast Away is all about solitude, there's one genre that may fit it well.

Though the movie is an emotionally exhausting rollercoaster, it could make for a great survival video game. Automatersassemble posits that the game could see players control Chuck, and "struggle to stay alive and work out how to get off the island with limited resources." The premise sounds similar to The Myst, a game set on a remote island full of mysteries that players had to solve, and there isn't any modern game like it.

John Wick (2014)

With three movies currently out, John Wick has become one of the most talked-about franchises of recent times. The gun-fu series is wildly popular, and DooM_Slayer226 thinks it could make for a great video game.

John Wick game has the potential to be one of the best movie tie-in games. The Redditor explains, "There are games out there that allow you to play as a Pseudo John Wick and I know he is a playable character in Payday 2, but I want a legitimate John Wick game." A John Wick game could have revolutionary shooting mechanics with the right developer.

I Am Legend

Stranger467 wants to see I Am Legend get the video game adaptation treatment. The game would make a great open-world survival horror RPG, as players could freely wander around and explore the city, but zombies would block their path every so often.

However, the Redditor admits that where there might have been a market for the game a few years ago, there might not be anymore, stating, "I always thought I Am Legend would make a good game. But then The Last of Us came out." The Last of Us is almost exactly how anybody would imagine an I Am Legend game, which centers on society after much of the population has fallen to a zombie-like parasite.

Goodfellas (1990)

In the 2000s, an interesting but brief trend ran through the gaming industry, as so many developers adapted classic 60s and 70s movies. Between From Russia With Love and The Warriors, they had varying degrees of success, but the most successful ones were adaptations of the gangster classics, The Godfather and Scarface.

Now, a deleted user thinks a developer should bring that trend back by creating a Goodfellas video game. The movie is Henry Hill's personal account of his time in the mafia, and on paper, it doesn't exactly lend itself to the video game format. However, it could follow the same formula as the Godfather game, as players could start from the bottom and rise through the mafia ranks.

Underworld (2003)

Xanderious wants to see a video game adaptation of Underworld, the movie that depicts a centuries-long war between werewolves and vampires. Where the Underworld movies got worse with each consecutive release, the Redditor makes a good argument that an Underworld game could be great. They posit, "There are tons of characters and lore and cool weapons. Plenty of plots to draw out and expand on. Everybody loves vampires and werewolves anyways."

The Matrix games did what the sequels couldn't do by making the series exciting and telling fascinating new stories within the universe. Between The Matrix Online and The Path of Neo, there are some surprisingly great Matrix games, and an Underworld game could do the same for its franchise, too.

The Fast And Furious Series

There actually is a Fast and Furious game, which was released in 2006 and is based on The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and it's one of the most underrated PS2 games. However, it was a street racing game that was attempting to appeal to fans of Midnight Club and the Need For Speed series, and that isn't the iteration of the movie franchise that Filip_zbczQZ wants.

More than anything else, the Reddit user wants to see "heist missions and stuff." Interestingly, the action sequences in the newer Fast and Furious movies make much more sense in a video game than in a narrative-driven movie. While going into space and destroying Edinborough was criticized when it happened in F9, it'd be so thrilling in a video game.

Bruce Almighty (2003)

Of all the movies that Redditors name, few of them bring up romantic comedies, but AyeAye711 picks an interesting one with a high concept that has huge video game potential. In a world where developers are heavily involved in one-upmanship when it comes to open-world sandboxes, a Bruce Almighty video game would put an end to the competition.

Between Grand Theft Auto, Just Cause, and Saints Row, so many free-roaming video games have tried to make players feel like God and give them endless possibilities. Bruce Almighty would literally see players act as God, and in the hands of a developer like Rockstar, it could be a huge hit.

The Land Before Time (1988)

Captain-Sugar wants to see a video game adaptation of 1988's The Land Before Time. The Redditor notes that in terms of the adaptation's gameplay, "you could control most of them." That's an interesting choice, and while a game based on The Land Before Time sounds aimed at much younger children, it allows for so many different types of gameplay and different ways to approach each level.

Players could soar through the sky as Petrie, gallop as Cera, or lead the way as Littlefoot, and the big enemy of the game could only be Sharptooth. And as there are 14 movies in the Land Before Time series, there's so much material that can be used for the game.

Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)

Walkonthisline thinks the Hayao Miyazaki-directed classic, Kiki's Delivery Service, would make a great video game, and they have an interesting elevator pitch for it too. The Redditor wants to see "Kiki's Delivery Service as a Crazy Taxi-like game." There's no doubt in anyone's mind that the game would look beautiful, as the animated movie is one of the best-looking films ever made.

Though there have already been other Crazy Taxi knock-offs, Kiki's Delivery Service would easily be the most imaginative. And as a cherry on top, Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro, another Miyazaki classic, is a literal Catbus that speeds through fields at night, and it could be an unlockable extra and a great crossover for fans.

The Terminator (1984)

The Terminator emerges from fire

Video games rarely see players controlling the villain, but that's exactly how a Terminator video game would play out. Controlling Sarah Connor constantly running from the T-800 wouldn't be that fun, but riding along highways on a motorbike with a shotgun would be endlessly exciting.

However, UberDoogee1 thinks the game could see players control each side depending on the level. The Redditor suggests, "You could play as a number of different terminators, protectors, and targets with different skillsets." The game could even give players the choice of which side they want to play through the game as.
