Pisces are both smart and empathetic. The last sign of the Zodiac, Pisces is represented by a fish and is ruled by Neptune and Jupiter. Pisces tend to get along best with smaller groups of people, and occasionally need to recalibrate themselves with time alone. Others tend to listen to them, and their moral compasses usually end up leading them to the right answers.

Therefore, if a movie night is planned, and Pisces are invited, it's best to stick to a small friend group that everyone knows well. Here are five sci-fi movies Pisces will love, and five they will hate.

Love: Men in Black (1997)

Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones

Let's start off with a classic. Men in Black features an organization that fights aliens in New York and prevents the world at large from knowing about them. The film's characters, humor, and score (by Danny Elfman) brought the film acclaim, and those are the same reasons Pisces would love it.

Despite Tommy Lee Jones ad-libbing most of his lines, this film truly comes together and is worth the watch.

Hate: Cowboys and Aliens (2011)

This film is a confusing mess of genres: namely, western and sci-fi. Aliens come to earth. Unfortunately, they don't arrive in the present, where technology is at its most advanced. Instead, they arrive during the 1800s and begin to attack townsfolk in the New Mexico Territory.

Though the acting was praised, Cowboys and Alien's tonal shifts were cited as bringing the film down. Overall, it received mixed reviews. Despite the genre mashup, the film didn't take the plot in an unforeseen direction, as could be wished for.

Love: Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)

This film was a long-desired project for Steven Spielberg, and he requested plenty of assistance with the screenplay to get it right, despite the fact that he was the sole writer credited.

The title comes from J. Allen Hynek's, who classified people's encounters with aliens, of which the third type equals human observation of aliens. Overall, this ingenuity and collaboration should be interesting to Pisces.

Hate: Blade Runner (1982)

Blade Runner pictures a version of the future where synthetic humans known as replicants work in colonies away from Earth. After a group of replicants escapes back to the Earth, Rick (Harrison Ford) hunts them down. Loosely inspired by Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, the film is now considered one of the best science-fiction films of all time.

Blade Runner has influenced several other films, such as Minority Report (2002), which might increase its interest for those curious about inspiration. However, since this film has various derivatives now, it probably isn't at the top of a Pisces' list.

Love: Ex Machina (2014)

Ex Machina is a dark version of a story that is cobbled together from several familiar tales. An elusive CEO (Oscar Isaac) pays for an employee to visit his estate for a week. Once there, the employee (Domhnall Gleeson) is to give a robot (Alicia Vikander) the Turing test.

There are plenty of twists in this film to keep the audience invested, which includes Pisces, who would be impressed with how the screenplay jumps from one idea to the next.

Hate: Tremors (1990)

Tremors is a sci-fi comedy about large worms that live underneath the ground and attack townsfolk living in Perfection, Nevada. It spawned a franchise with several films. The first film was praised by critics for its humor and diverse cast.

Some critics had issues with the combination of the genres, however. Though a new idea at the time, now Tremors can seem dated, and therefore, it might not be the first choice for a movie night.

Love: E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is widely considered one of the greatest films ever made. Produced and directed by Stephen Spielberg, the film centers around Elliot, a young boy, after he discovers an alien whom he dubs E.T., which stands for extra-terrestrial.

This is an extremely nostalgic film for many people, and that is part of why Pisces would resonate so much with it. Therefore, it certainly fits as a strong pick for a hypothetical Pisces-only movie night.

Hate: Knowing (2009)

Knowing takes a page from Arthur C. Clarke's books, specifically Childhood's End. Aliens come to Earth in the form of whispers in the minds of children. A time capsule is created in 1959, and one girl writes down all the major disasters that will happen over the next 50 years.

Decades later, an astrophysicist finds the page and seeks to solve the final mysteries. Critics appreciated the acting and visual style but criticized the ending and some inconsistencies.

Love: Back to the Future (1985)

back to the future

Marty (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown's (Christopher Lloyd) gregarious natures truly encapsulate this film, where teenager Marty McFly travels back in time and accidentally helps his parents' marriage.

Marty and Doc's ingenuity also cause the twists of the film to seem realistic and interesting. Robert Zemeckis' creativity is a factor to be celebrated. Back to the Future, in particular, is very in tune with Pisces values, and should definitely be on the to-watch list.

Hate: Bright (2017)

Will Smith and Joel Edgerton in Bright

Much has been said about Bright and its lack of sense. The film takes a racist allegory too far, and in turn, renders the entire concept meaningless because it's trying too hard. The characters and the lessons they go through are also unsubtle.

Therefore, this film wouldn't necessarily be recommended to Pisces. It isn't creative, and it's characters are fairly one-dimensional, leaving little room for true sympathy that isn't manufactured by the heavy-handed racism allegory.
