It's a lot rarer for movie pregnancies to be real than the ones shown on TV shows. This is due to the fact that movies tend to have a much tighter schedule, which means that the producers don't always have time to wait for the actresses to have their children.

A lot of actresses have had to bow out of movies at an early stage of production due to becoming pregnant, for this very reason.

There are some instances when an actress is playing a pregnant character, so her real-life pregnancy can easily be incorporated into the movie. There are also instances when an actress becomes pregnant during production, which means that the film-makers will have to use some creative filming techniques in order to avoid the baby bump.

This is when body doubles can become essential, especially in movies that involve a lot of action scenes, with the camera only ever filming the real actress from above the chest.

Not all actresses are method enough to actually get knocked-up just for a film role, which means that a lot of the most famous movies about giving birth and pregnancy were led by actresses wearing prosthetic baby bumps.

We are here today to see which pregnancies in movies were the result of a pillow stuffed in a shirt, and which ones were due to actual babies.

Here are the 10 Movie Pregnancies That Were Fake (And 10 That Were Real)!

Real: Carrie-Anne Moss In Fido

A family looks on with their zombie pet from Fido

Fido is a Canadian comedy/horror movie set in a world where the dead all rise as zombies due to radiation and have been turned into servants by humanity.

This is done with the aid of a collar that allows people to control the zombie's actions, even though there is a risk of the collar being broken and the zombie breaking loose, which is why a security force exists to deal with any minor zombie outbreaks.

Carrie-Anne Moss plays the mother of the main character, who purchases a zombie to use around the house.

Carrie-Anne Moss' character is heavily pregnant throughout the movie and is shown with a newborn baby at the end.

The role that Carrie-Anne Moss took wasn't written with a pregnant woman in mind, but the script was changed in order to accommodate her, as she was seven months pregnant when shooting began.

Fake: Ellen Page In Juno

Juno sits on a chair in the yard from Juno

Juno might be the most iconic modern film when dealing with the subject of teen pregnancy.

The movie was lauded upon release for its amazing performances and sharp writing, while was also criticized for glamorizing teenage pregnancy, to the point where the media accused a brief increase in the number of teen pregnancies as being part of the "Juno Effect."

Ellen Page played a pregnant girl throughout Juno, yet she has never had any children of her own.

She is also married to Emma Portner, which means that if she chooses to give birth, then it will be something that is planned in advance, rather than something that can happen by accident, as was the case with Juno MacGuff.

Real: Alice Lowe In Prevenge

Prevenge is a comedy/slasher film about a woman who believes that her unborn child is compelling her to hunt down and slay the people responsible for the demise of her husband, who was involved in a climbing accident and had his rope cut by the other members of his group.

Prevenge starred Alice Lowe, who also wrote and directed the film, in what would be her directorial debut.

She was also pregnant throughout the production process, which means that the murderous baby bump was all her own.

The reason Alice Lowe created Prevenge was to create a horror film based around the idea of pregnancy from a woman's perspective, as most movies that turn the idea of being impregnanted or giving birth to a monster are written by men.

Fake: Lindsay Lohan In Labor Pains

Lindsay Lohan in Labor Pains

Lindsay Lohan starred in a rom-com called Labor Pains, which was originally planned to receive a theatrical release but was downgraded into a TV movie, though it still drew a large audience for its premiere.

Labor Pains is about a woman who pretends to be pregnant in order to keep her job safe, as she discovered that it was considered discriminatory to fire a pregnant woman.

We're pretty sure this isn't true, but it was turned into the focal point of a movie where a woman has to pretend to be pregnant.

Labor Pains ended with Lohan's character actually giving birth, as she had found true love throughout the story of the film. This pregnancy was the result of artifice, as Lindsay Lohan has never had any children in real life.

Real: Julia Roberts In Ocean's Twelve

This is an odd example, as Julia Roberts was playing a woman who was pretending to be Julia Roberts, who was also pretending to be pregnant as Julia Roberts was pregnant in real life, even though her character wasn't meant to be.

If you think this sounds like an incredibly stupid storyline, then you are right, as it took place in the abominable Ocean's Twelve.

Julia Roberts was pregnant during the production of the movie, which meant that she didn't take part in any of the action in the film. Instead, she was used as a distraction by pretending to be Julia Roberts, until her plan is foiled by Bruce Willis (playing Bruce Willis).

Her character was pretending to be pregnant so that she could better match the real-life Julia Roberts, as she was pregnant at the time.

Fake: Katherina Heigl In Knocked Up

Katherine Heigl - Knocked Up

Knocked Up was a huge success at the box office, but the real story of the film is less about the actual content, but the response from those who starred in it.

Katherine Heigl played one of the lead roles in Knocked Up, as it was her character who was impregnated by Seth Rogen's character after a one night stand.

The story of the movie follows their attempt to form a relationship after they decide to keep the child. Katherine Heigl has since called the movie offensive and has derided the movie for presenting women in a negative light.

Knocked Up was released in 2007 and Katherine Heigl did not have her first child until 2016. Heigl and her husband also have two adopted children.

Real: Kathryn Hahn In How Do You Know

How Do You Know had all of the elements of a huge film: it was directed by James L. Brooks, who has produced and written some of the most successful movies and TV shows of all time, most notably being one of the three creative minds behind The Simpsons, while the movie starred Jack Nicholson and Reese Witherspoon.

The critical reception did not appreciate the movie' pedigree, and it ended up bombing at the box office.

Kathryn Hahn plays a pregnant secretary in How Do You Know, while also being seven months pregnant herself.

This culminated in a scene at the end of the movie, where she gives birth.

This scene was partly filmed while Hahn was pregnant, while the remainder was filmed after she gave birth.

Fake: Julianna Moore In Nine Months

Hugh Grant and Julianne Moore in Nine Months

Nine Months is a romantic comedy that starred Hugh Grant and Julianne Moore.

This was the movie that helped propel Hugh Grant to international stardom and helped him to steal the coveted role of "handsome British actor who stutters just enough to be endearing" for several years in Hollywood.

Nine Months tells the story of a couple with an idyllic relationship, which is threatened when Julianne Moore's character becomes pregnant.

Hugh Grant isn't sure whether he is ready for the responsibility of becoming a parent, which threatens his relationship.

Julianne Moore's wasn't actually pregnant during the production of Nine Months, but that changed two years later when she had her first child with Bart Freundlich, who she would later marry in 2003. Moore and Freundlich would have a second child in 2002.

Real: Naomi Watts In Mother And Child

Mother and Child tells the story of several different characters and how their lives were affected by having children.

One of these storylines involves Naomi Watts, who joins a prestigious law firm and has an affair with her colleague, played by Samuel L. Jackson.

Watts becomes pregnant from the affair and leaves without informing Jackson of the truth.

Not only was Naomi Watts genuinely pregnant throughout many of the scenes in Mother and Child, but her unborn son actually managed to be part of the movie.

There is a scene in Mother and Child where Naomi Watt's character is visiting the doctor, at which point we see the baby inside of her kick. This was a result of Samuel Watts kicking at just the right moment.

Fake: The Leading Ladies In What To Expect When You're Expecting

What to expect When You're Expecting Cast

People give movies like Battleship abuse for being movie adaptations of properties that had nothing to do with the source material.

The same kind of adaptation treatment happened to What to Expect When You're Expecting, which was a guide for pregnant women that was written in 1984 and was later turned into a rom-com in 2012.

What to Expect When You're Expecting tells the story of several couples and their tales of trying to have children.

All of the stars of the movie were faking their pregnancies, as Anna Kendrick and Cameron Diaz do not have children.

Elizabeth Banks has had two children through surrogates, while Brooklyn Decker did not have her first child until 2015.

Real: Cate Blanchett In The Life Aquatic

Cate Blanchett and Bill Murray in The Life Aquatic

There are times when an actress signs up for a movie and becomes pregnant during the period before the movie starts shooting.

This will usually result in the actress bowing out of the production.

There usually isn't a problem unless the actress is part of a larger franchise, as was the case with Scarlett Johannson in Age of Ultron, which required the use of body doubles to continue production.

Cate Blanchett was not pregnant when she signed on for The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, but she was by the time the cameras started rolling.

Luckily for Blanchett, she was already playing a character who was meant to be pregnant, which meant that her real-life pregnancy wouldn't cause any issues with the production.

Fake: Elizabeth McGovern In She's Having A Baby

Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern in She's Having a Baby

She's Having a Baby was a rom-com that was released in 1988. It followed the story of a couple played by Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern, starting from their wedding day and concluding with the birth of their first child.

The movie deals with the pressures that society places upon young couples, even though Kevin Bacon isn't sure whether he is ready to have a child or not.

Elizabeth McGovern was not pregnant during the production of She's Having a Baby and all of the scenes showing her with a baby bump were filmed using prosthetics.

She would go on to marry Simon Curtis in 1992 and they would have their first daughter in 1993, with a second one following in 1998.

Real: Keisha Castle-Hughes In The Nativity Story

There have been many movies based on stories from The Bible, with the tale of the circumstances surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ forming the basis of several different movies.

The Nativity Story was a movie released in 2006 that starred Keisha Castle-Hughes and Oscar Isaacs, who played Mary and Joseph.

The Nativity Story received a lot of press during its production, as it was revealed that Keisha Castle-Hughes was pregnant with her boyfriend's child, even though she was only a teenager at the time.

This brought a lot of attention to the movie from a press that would have otherwise ignored a movie about a biblical story, some of which was negative, but most people were supportive of Keisha Castle-Hughes.

Fake: Jennifer Aniston In The Object Of My Affection

The Object of My Affection is a rom-com that was released in 1998. Jennifer Aniston plays a woman who becomes pregnant and wants to raise the child alongside her gay best friend, whom she starts to develop romantic feelings for.

Jennifer Aniston was not actually pregnant during the filming of The Object of My Affection and has never had any children.

It was speculated that the reason why Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt got divorced was due to her refusal to have children, but Aniston buried these rumors in 2005 during an interview with Vanity Fair, where she claimed that she wanted to have children when the time is right.

Real: Miranda Otto In War Of The Worlds

Miranda Otto is best-known for playing Éowyn in the second and third entries in The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.

She has also appeared in numerous other movies and TV shows, including 24: Legacy, Homeland, and The Thin Red Line.

After appearing in Return of the King, Miranda Otto went on to star in Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds, where she played Tom Cruise's ex-wife.

Miranda Otto's character wasn't planned as being pregnant when the movie was in its pre-production phase.

When Steve Speilberg called Otto to offer her the role, she told him that she was pregnant. Speilberg wanted her in the movie so much that he changed the script so that her character was now pregnant.

Fake: Drew Barrymore In Riding In Cars With Boys

Riding in Cars with Boys is an adaptation of a memoir of the same name, written by Beverly Donofrio in 1992.

The story of Riding in Cars with Boys follows Donofrio's experiences of being a teenage mother in the '60s and her attempts to continue her education, despite the distractions within her personal life.

Beverly Donofrio would go to become a famous author and write essays for some of the most prolific magazines and newspapers in the world.

The scenes in Riding in Cars with Boys where Drew Barrymore was pregnant were all faked for the camera.

The movie was released in 2001, while Drew Barrymore would not give birth to her first daughter until 2012, with a second daughter following in 2014.

Real: Maya Rudolph In Grown Ups

The deal that Adam Sandler made at the crossroads with the Devil seems to still be in full effect, as the critically panned Grown Ups became one of Sandler's most profitable films of all time.

Maya Rudolph played a pregnant woman in Grown Ups, which was helped by the fact that she was actually pregnant at the time.

Maya Rudolph is married to director Paul Thomas Anderson and they currently have four children. Rudolph was pregnant with her second daughter, Lucille, during the production of Grown Ups.

Grown Ups is not the first time that Maya Rudolph was pregnant during production, as she was also pregnant during part of her tenure at Saturday Night Live.

Fake: Kirstie Alley In Look Who's Talking

John Travolta and Kirstie Alley in Look Who's Talking

Look Who's Talking might not have left much of an impression on the world of cinema, but it was a massive success when it was first released.

Look Who's Talking cost around seven million dollars to make and brought in almost three-hundred million dollars at the box office. It's surprising that we still haven't seen a remake of the film.

Kirstie Alley played the mother of the talking baby, but she wouldn't become a parent for several years after the release of the movie.

Look Who's Talking was released in 1989 and Kirstie Alley would have a son in 1992, with a daughter following in 1994.

Kirstie Alley became a grandmother in 2016 when her son had a boy of his own.

Real: Catherine Zeta-Jones In Traffic

Traffic is an adaptation of a British TV show that followed different perspectives on the illegal drug trade from Mexico into North America.

Cathrine Zeta-Jones plays the pregnant wife of a powerful drug baron who is facing life in prison. She has to step up and take over control of her husband's business so that she can keep him out of jail.

Catherina Zeta-Jones' character wasn't originally supposed to be pregnant, but she managed to convince the director to change the story so that she could still be part of the movie, as she already knew that she was with child at the time.

She felt that if the character was pregnant, then it would make her more vulnerable and add more stakes to her participation in the crimes that were needed to save her family.

Fake: Amy Poehler In Baby Mama

Kate and Angie in a lamaze class in Baby Mama

Tina Fey was no stranger to dealing with on-set pregnancies on 30 Rock, so she was lucky to have dodged a bullet with Baby Mama, which was a rom-com that she made with Amy Poehler.

Baby Mama follows the story of Tina Fey's character, who only has a small chance of becoming pregnant through regular means, so she decides to find a surrogate, played by Amy Poehler, and the two struggle to get along.

It's possible that filming Baby Mama may have stirred up some maternal feelings inside of Amy Poehler, as she announced that she was pregnant when the movie had just topped the box office.

She would go on to have two sons with her husband, Will Arnett, before their divorce in 2016.
