Harry Potter's Tom Felton knows Therese Raquin; Philip Seymour Hoffman is A Most Wanted Man; Justin Long orders A Case of You; Can The Da Vinci Code crack The Vatican Connection? The Vampire Lestat chases The Body Thief and Pierce Brosnan and Emma Thompson get a Love Punch.
1. A Harry Potter star takes a lead role in a period ghost story. Nope, it’s not about Daniel Radcliffe’s The Woman In Black, this story is about Tom Felton.
The success of The Woman in Black has meant there is life after Potter for Radcliffe. Now, it is Felton’s turn as he’s set to star in a “dark and erotic thriller”.
The former Malfoy character will join Glenn Close and Elizabeth Olsen in Therese Raquin, a film which Charlie Stratton will write and direct, based on Emile Zola's novel and play.
2. Philip Seymour Hoffman is set to star in the thriller A Most Wanted Man.
The American director Anton Corbijn will helm the film which “takes place in present-day Hamburg, Germany - where a mysterious, near-dead half-Chechen, half-Russian man on the run arrives in the city's Islamic community desperate for help and looking to recover his late Russian father's ill-gotten fortune. Hoffman will play chief of a covert German spy unit who works to solve the mystery of the man's identity.”
Andrew Bovell wrote the script for A Most Wanted Man, which is based on John le Carré’s 2008 novel.
One thing’s for sure – with Corbijn directing, it’s going to look good. Very good.
3. Live Free or Die Hard star Justin Long will write, produce and star in A Case of You.
According to Variety:
“The story revolves around a young writer who tries to impress a girl he meets online with an embellished profile, but finds himself in a real mess when she falls for him and he has to keep up the act.”
Keir O'Donnell and Long's brother Christian also co-wrote the indie comedy which will be directed by Kat Coiro and co-star Evan Rachel Wood and Peter Dinklage.
It sounds pretty generic, but maybe Long will pull it out of the bag. Doubtful, but you never know.
4. Chris Hanley, John Penotti, Jeff Most, Bob DeBrino and Edward Pressman are set to produce a screen adaptation Richard Hammer's controversial book The Vatican Connection.
According to THR, the gaggle of producers will unite to tell the rumor filled tale about the death of Pope John Paul. The thriller will involve talk of corruption within the Vatican, and its connections to the Mafia and the Freemasons.
The producers, had planned to make the film sometime ago, but a lack of interest due to the potential controversy meant that they had to re-option the property.
"It is great timing to re-option and produce this fantastic controversial book. Originally there was too much uproar surrounding the story line to get going properly, but what with the proven success from recent Vatican movies, like The Da Vinci Code, and the fact that we now have a producing dream team behind this project, the time is now to make this finally happen, and fast.”
5. Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment has bought the rights to the fourth book in Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles, The Body Thief.
Tom Cruise first portrayed Lestat in Neil Jordan’s 1994 film Interview With the Vampire, with Stuart Townsend taking over the role for 2002’s Queen on The Damned.
Lee Patterson will script the film, which has no director or cast, yet...
6.Former James Bond Pierce Brosnan and Emma Thompson are set to join forces in the romantic comedy Love Punch. The film, from director Joel Hopkins (who directed Thompson in Last Chance Harvey) follows a divorced couple who attempt to track down a business man who has stolen their retirement fund.
Last Chance Harvey was a nice little film which co-starred Dustin Hoffman, and it's good that Hopkins is broadening his canvas with this new effort. The casting of Brosnan and Thompson is also a good combination, so this could be one to watch. At the very least all involved will get a decent holiday!
Love Punch will shoot this summer in the UK, Paris and the French Riviera.
That's it for now. See you at the movies.
