A stunning new trailer for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord focuses on the single-player adventure for the upcoming sandbox RPG for the PC and reveals an impressively realistic medieval world that accurately reimagines several historical civilizations from across the globe. The highly anticipated game has been in development since 2012.

Developed by Turkish game studio TaleWorlds Entertainment, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord serves as a prequel to 2010's Mount & Blade: Warband. The Mount & Blade series is set in the fictional world of Calradia where players can roam the countryside with complete freedom to become a mercenary, a bandit, or a lord in the service of a king. As you siege castles and towns, plunder villages, lead armies on the battlefield, and rise through the ranks, it's even possible to overthrow the ruler of a kingdom, take charge, and unite the lands.

At Gamescom 2018, TaleWorlds showed off a new trailer for Bannerlord which previews the game's single-player campaign. The trailer shows the player character fighting an army of soldiers and wandering through taverns and a medieval town. The trailer gives Bannerlord the feel of a game that realistically depicts daily life and warfare in the Middle Ages.

Bannerlord is designed to do just that. Though the game takes place on a fictional continent, all of Bannerlord's factions are based on real civilizations, such as the Celts, the Mongols, the Byzantine Empire, the Arabs, the Vikings, and the Germans. As one of TaleWorlds' goals is to create a game that's historically accurate - and fun at the same time - Bannerlord features various types of swords, bows, spears, castles, siege equipment, and armor. The weapons and architecture from each faction are inspired directly by the cultures the factions are based on. For example, a player exploring the region of Battania will come across castles and swords associated with Celtic culture.

Though Bannerlord has been in the works for years, this trailer provides the first detailed look at the single-player story. TaleWorlds previewed Bannerlord's multiplayer modes at E3 2017 and skipped this year's E3. Despite its years of being in development, a release date has still not been set, much to the frustration of fans who have frequently voiced their frustrations on Steam, where TaleWorlds posts weekly updates on their progress. According to TaleWorlds, they would prefer to release the game when it is ready, rather than rush to meet a deadline.
