Alleged renders and key specifications suggest Motorola's Edge 30 Ultra flagship is likely to be an interesting and powerful phone. The company’s most recent flagship was the Motorola Edge+. Arriving back in May of last year, the Motorola Edge+ featured Qualcomm’s then-top-tier Snapdragon 865 chip and a neat design.

The Edge+ was followed by the Motorola Edge 20 Pro, which offered a rear triple-camera array spearheaded by a 108-megapixel main snapper, along with a smooth 144Hz OLED display. However, it arrived rocking the ‘sub-flagship’ Snapdragon 870 chip, instead of Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 888 SoC that a majority of 2021 Android flagships employ. More recently, there has been some chatter about another high-end Motorola phone being in the pipeline, and it has finally leaked.

Alleged renders of the upcoming device, provided by 91Mobiles and Steve Hemmerstoffer, show a rather understated design, but with some powerful innards. The phone reportedly features a 6.67-inch OLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ certification. There is a centrally-aligned hole-punch at the top that allegedly houses a rather impressive 60-megapixel front camera. For comparison, a camera-centric phone like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra maxes out at 40 megapixels for its selfie shooter. The screen on Motorola's yet-to-be-announced phone is flat and the lights are kept on by a 5,000 mAh capacity battery with support for 68W fast charging. However, there's no word on wireless charging.

Motorola Could Make An Impact (If Price Is Right)

The rear camera array allegedly includes a 50-megapixel primary sensor supplied by OmniVision. There's also another 50-megapixel Samsung-made sensor for wide-angle photography, and a 2-megapixel camera for collecting depth information. As far as the name goes, Motorola’s official teaser on Chinese microblogging platform Weibo suggests that its next phone will be called Edge X, but rumors suggest it might be called Edge 30 Ultra in some markets. The phone is said to employ Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 898 flagship SoC, due to be revealed at an event next month.

Judging by the shape of the power button, the fingerprint sensor is likely positioned beneath the OLED screen. Motorola’s recent offerings have tried to milk the ‘budget flagship’ trend that promises competitive specifications at a palatable price. The best example of this trend is Samsung’s Galaxy S20 FE 5G, soon to be followed by the Galaxy S21 FE. However, the Pixel 6's arrival at just $599 has shaken up the segment and Motorola will need to be aggressive with the Edge X (or the Edge 30 Ultra) if it is to go against Google’s well-received phone. Unfortunately, there has been no credible information regarding the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra's asking price so far.
