Hollywood loves to make movies that have some kind of major twist involved in the plot. Some of the most notorious twists, such as the one in The Sixth Sense, will catch everyone by surprise until the big reveal. These films also have excellent rewatch value, as the viewers are able to see all the clues that they just hadn't seen before unfold.

Unfortunately, not every big Hollywood twist is as successful and some can even be seen a mile away. This isn't to say that the films with obvious twists are bad, as sometimes the movies even want to make the reveal apparent. Warning: movie spoilers ahead.

Saw 3D

Saw 3D The Final Chapter

Saw 3D, also known as Saw: The Final Chapter featured a twist that it seems like almost every fan of the franchise saw coming. At this point in the continuum, Jigsaw had a third apprentice, a hidden face laying all the traps. The movie showed a few clips from the first film, featuring Dr. Lawrence Gordon in the famous bathroom.

This scene obviously is meant to have an impact in the latter half of the film and gives audiences a dead giveaway at who exactly is the third Jigsaw apprentice, which is something fans have been theorizing since the beginning.

Knives Out

Knives Out Movie

Knives Out is an absolutely phenomenal movie that seemingly wants its audience to know that Ransom is the one behind the murder. For starters, he is the black sheep of the family, and while this may have covered for him in the movie, it also was the big flashing light that he was the killer.

It seemed like Rian Johnson wanted us to think Ransom was the obvious choice so it had to be someone else. So while audiences are thinking that it can't be Ransom, that would be too obvious, it actually looped back and became a huge twist.

Scream

The Ghostface killer in Scream

Even Scream acknowledged that this plot twist was obvious by framing Billy as the assumed bad guy before he even reveals it himself. Billy always seemed a bit demented as he thirsted after Sidney, and his best friend Stu didn't ever seem that much more sane.

Though the reveal of their being two killers was big, the discovery of who those two killers actually were wasn't all that surprising. However, this reveal also made this movie one of the greatest slasher movies that managed to revitalize the genre.

The Others

The Others Movie

If viewers of The Others actually pay attention to the details surrounding the characters, it'll be pretty easy to tell when the big reveal is of the film.

Nicole Kidman and her two children live in a haunted house, but it isn't until they encounter more people that they realize they are the spirits haunting it. Kidman and the children are often seen pale white, breathing cold air, and even encounter her husband who was supposed to be dead.

Shutter Island

Leonardo DiCaprio lights a match in Shutter Island

Shutter Island orchestrated its reveal beautifully, that if one was one of the audience members who didn't see it coming, it would surely be shocking. However, like with The Others, there are a ton of diets sprinkled throughout the film to suggest that he was actually a patient the entire time.

One of the biggest giveaways was Teddy's entire conversation with Rachel, and how the employees of the asylum were lying to him. His constant flashbacks to his wife and other inmate reactions to him all tell audiences who Teddy really is from the very beginning.

Orphan

Orphan Movie

Orphan is about a young girl, Esther, who gets adopted by a family but gets really weird really quickly. The young girl is slowly revealed to harbor intense feelings for the father as she comes to loathe the mother. Unfortunate events start happening, and the families other children begin to get hurt more and more often.

In a strange reveal, it turns out Esther is not actually a child at all and has a rare disease that just makes her look as such. She tries to seduce the father and cut the mother out of the picture, literally. While this reveal was surprising, it definitely was obvious that something was up with her from the beginning, and it didn't seem like a ghostly or possession take over.

The Empire Strikes Back

Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader fight in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

This reveal is a big one, one that has gone down in history. In fact, it was so big that anyone who has watched Star Wars after 1980, knows of the twist before they even see it. Darth Vader was Luke Skywalker's father the entire time. But this reveal also seems like it was kind of laid out for audiences to notice. Darth Vader, one of the galaxy's strongest, most ruthless guys, has a hard time killing the small, untrained Luke Skywalker. His vested interest in Luke also shows that there is more to this dynamic than just good versus evil.

Lucas has stated he didn't plan for this to happen until The Empire Strikes Back, but from the beginning of this sequel, it is clear that there is more to it. Plus, as Beca says in Pitch Perfect, "Vater" is German for "Father" and "Vader" (pronounced differently) is Dutch for "Father." So it kind of all makes sense.

Get Out

Get Out Movie

Get Out is so much more than its reveal. It is clear from the get-go that something is wrong with this party of people the main character gets himself involved with. The only other two black characters around act super bizarre, immediately setting him off.

The reveal in the film is that something is actually wrong with everyone, they're all crazy racists who think they deserve better than the average person. On top of that, the twist that his girlfriend has been in on it the entire time is something fans saw coming as she was clearly unhinged and surrounded by strange people.

The Visit

Nana in The Visit

Like every M. Night Shyamalan movie, this film has a twist. And while it is a twist that is foreshadowed and hinted at throughout the film, it still doesn't hinder the movie's actual quality.

Two kids travel alone to stay with their grandparents who they had never met, on a remote farm for a week. The kids are given the strict rule to never leave their rooms after 9:30 pm. The kids immediately realize that something is wrong with their grandparents, and while at first, it seems like some kind of cult or paranormal-like activity, it eventually divulges into giving away massive clues before the final reveal.

Pyscho

Mother Bates stabs through the shower

Psycho may have started the trend of twists in horror movies, as Norman Bates dressed as his mother to do all the killing. One of the dead giveaways is that Norman has an assortment of taxidermy animals, which is later revealed as something he also did to preserve his mother.

Another big indicator before the actual reveal is the iconic shower scene. The mother's face is supposed to be hidden behind pure shadow as the figure slashes away at Marion Crane, but in the initial shot, after they throw the shower curtain open, viewers can actually see the face of a man, assumedly Norman's, for a brief second.
