Though Thor was one of the most significant heroes in the MCU, his solo films had failed to inspire much love. When it came time for his third solo outing, Taika Waititi was brought in to add some new life, and Thor: Ragnarok became one of the MCU's most entertaining entries.

The film found Thor on an intergalactic quest to save Asgard from Hela, the Goddess of Death. Chris Hemsworth and the rest of the cast were able to fully embrace their comedic side, all leading to a hilarious movie with so many great gags and one-liners.

Updated on September 27th, 2021 by Colin McCormick: A recent episode of What If...? depicted Thor as a wild party animal which felt very reminiscent of Thor: Ragnarok's take on the God of Thunder. Years later, the movie is still considered perhaps the funniest MCU movie to date, and the best quotes from Thor: Ragnarok demonstrate why it may be remembered as the defining moment of Chris Hemsworth's take on the character.

Thor: "Yeah, It's Called The... Uh... Revengers!"

Thor seems to have developed a strange relationship with the Avengers since he last teamed with them. At one point, he claims they have become too corporate. But it is also clear in Thor: Ragnarok that he misses being a part of a team.

When Thor prepares to go save Asgard, he rounds up Hulk and Valkyrie to form his new supergroup. But when Valkyrie asks him what the team name is, Thor decides on the Revengers, clearly having a difficult time distancing himself from his other hero friends.

Loki: "Yes! That's How That Feels!"

It is not just Thor who gets to have more fun in this movie as Loki lightens up considerably from his darker roles in other MCU movies. And when he sees that Hulk is the Grandmaster's undefeated champion, he has flashbacks to their last encounter.

As Thor battles Hulk in the ring, he attempts to calm his old friend only for Hulk to grab him and thrash him around like a ragdoll. Loki excitedly cheers in the stands, happy to see Thor get the same treatment he got from Hulk in The Avengers.

Thor: "Loki, I Thought The World Of You."

Before fans saw a softer side of Loki by the end of his solo show, Thor: Ragnarok allowed the God of Mischief to find some redemption. While he is up to many of his old tricks for most of the movie, Thor helps him to realize their relationship doesn't need to be this way.

While Loki sees his relationship with Thor as enemies destined to battle each other, Thor claims he always thought highly of his brother. This tough love shows Loki that he doesn't need to stay on the villain's path just because he thinks that's how people see him.

Valkyrie: "And We Need One With Cupholders, 'Cause We're Going To Die. So, Drinks!"

It doesn't take long for Valkyrie to establish herself as one of the best new heroes in the MCU. Tessa Thompson plays the part of a true badass while also bringing a lot of humor to the role. It is also fun that Valkyrie is a bit of a disillusioned hero.

After being happy to avoid heroic for a while, Valkyrie is willing to help Thor escape Sakaar and fight Hela. But she is not too optimistic about their chances so she recommends they steal a ship with cupholders so they can at least drink.

The Grandmaster: "Ass-gard?"

Another one of the most entertaining new characters in the movie is The Grandmaster. As the ruler of the alien planet of Sakaar, The Grandmaster is an eccentric villain who seems oblivious to the fact that he's a bad guy. He also has a lot of fun teases Thor as his new contender.

As Thor demands to be released, he tells The Grandmaster that he is the prince of Asgard, in an attempt to intimidate him. The Grandmaster mishears him and admits he's never heard of a place called "Ass-gard" which only infuriates Thor more.

Loki: "I Have Been Falling… For Thirty Minutes!"

Though Thor really gets to shine in this film, he is joined by some fellow Marvel heroes, including Doctor Strange in a fun cameo. When Thor and Loki head to Earth in search of Odin, Strange drops Loki through one of his portals so he and Thor can talk.

Once their business is concluded, Strange opens the portal again and Loki is dropped on the floor. The disgruntled God of Mischief cries out "I have been falling… for thirty minutes!"

Korg: "Piss Off Ghost!"

Along with directing the film, Taika Waititi played one of the film's most entertaining side characters, Korg. Though the rock monster appears intimidating, he proves to be a very soft-spoken and hilarious ally for Thor.

Waititi's one-liners as Korg add big laughs to any scene he's in. After Loki and Thor have a brotherly discussion, Loki's projection fades away as Korg attacks and shouts after him "Piss off, ghost!" It's a hilariously random moment that shows the fun Waititi brings to the film.

Odin: "Asgard Is Not A Place, It's A People."

After being a central part of Thor's story, Odin finally meets his end in this film. After locating their father in Norway, Thor and Loki find that he's at the end of his life. However, he still has some wise advice for them.

As he explains to Thor that the Asgardians need him, he also explains that Asgard is not a place but rather a people. This later inspires Thor to allow Asgard to be destroyed so that its people can survive in a new home.

Hulk: "Hulk Like Real Fire."

After both were left out of Captain America: Civil War, Thor, and Hulk get to partner up in this film. After finding each other on Sakar, the two fellow Avengers have a bit of difficulty seeing eye-to-eye.

As Hulk has seemed to develop quite a bit over time, he and Thro are able to converse. They talk about how, despite their differences, they are both very similar with their fiery tempers. However, Hulk insists he is a real fire whereas Thor is just a "smoldering fire."

Loki: "We're Not Doing 'Get Help'"

This movie continues to explore the interesting relationship between Thor and Loki, albeit in a much more comedic way. Despite all they have been through, these two still act like bickering brothers.

When making their escape from Sakar, Thor suggests they do their old childhood trick called "get help." Loki is very much against the idea but Thor convinces him. The scheme has Loki pretending he's hurt and Thor calling for help before he throws Loki at their enemies. Thor is happy with the results but Loki finds it just a little humiliating.

Thor: "Is He Though?"

Thor Banner Ragnarok

Even within a Thor movie, there is some interesting evolution with Bruce Banner and Hulk. The struggle between these two personalities is used to great effect as they seem to be in competition for who is more important.

Quinjet Computer: "Welcome, Point Break."

The movie is not only very original with its comedy, but it also has some great call-backs to other moments in the MCU. One of the most memorable comes when Thor locates the Quinjet Hulk stole but has difficulty accessing it.

When the computer asks for Thor's voice activation. He tries using various names including "Strongest Avenger" but none of them work. He finally realizes Tony programmed it with Thor's nickname, "Point Break."

Korg: "Oh My God, The Hammer Pulled You Off?"

Thor loses a lot in this film and experiences some of his saddest moments in the MCU, including the shocking destruction of his hammer early in the film. It is a moment that shows Hela's incredible strength and puts Thor on the ropes.

Despite the loss, it makes for a funny scene as Thor tries to explain to Korg how special the hammer was. He tells him how he was able to fly with the hammer but Korg doesn't understand. Finally, he says he would swing the hammer and it would pull him off which proves to be an awkward way of wording it.

Odin: "Are You Thor, The God Of Hammers?"

Even with all the loss, Thor eventually learns he has more strength inside him than he ever realized. He keeps having visions of Odin in the afterlife and finally speaks to him during his final showdown with Hela.

Thor tells his father that he is not strong enough and cannot defeat Hela without Thor's mighty hammer Mjolnir. Odin responds with his typical wisdom, asking "Are you Thor, the god of hammers?" Thor then summons his thunder power, making him even more powerful than he was before.

Thor: "He's A Friend From Work!"

Thor sees Hulk and cheers in Thor: Ragnarok

Though it was spoiled in all of the trailers, the reveal of Hulk in this movie is a great one. Taking a page from the popular Planet Hulk comic, Thor finds himself on the planet of Sakaar and part of a gladiatorial competition put on by The Grandmaster.

As Thor readies to face off with the famed champion, Hulk emerges and Thor shouts in excitement. As everyone looks on in confusion, he calls up to the Grandmaster and says "We know each other. He's a friend from work!" The line is made even better by the fact that, according to CinemaBlend, it was suggested by a young fan who was visiting the set that day.
