Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Avengers #65

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' Avengers, the mysterious Avenger Prime has revealed himself to be the multiverse's ultimate version of Loki who once took on every major villain and lived to tell the tale. With the Army of Doom arriving to claim the power to rewrite existence known as the God Quarry, Avenger Prime shares his story in the hopes of gaining their trust before the major battle that's still to come.

In the new Avengers #65 from Jason Aaron and Javier Garrón, the latest chapter of Aaron's ongoing Avengers Assemble event reveals the truth about Avenger Prime, this new version of Loki who confesses he's on a mission of penance. In his own reality, this variant of Loki prevented the creation of his world's Avengers. However, this inadvertently forced the God of Mischief to face every major Marvel villain the Avengers would have faced including Thanos, Galactus, Gorr the God Butcher, and more.

Avenger Prime Loki vs Every Marvel Villain

Remarkably, it's confirmed that this new Loki battled all of his world's villains and actually emerged the victor, stretching his skills and sorcery to their very limits. Considering the power levels at play with all of these cosmic foes and beings, Loki would have had to become the most powerful being in his entire reality to have a prayer at beating all these villains simultaneously, and Avenger Prime confirms he was. However, the tragic cost was the destruction of his entire world, a payment that darkly makes sense.

Although Loki tried to throw himself into the sun due to his massive guilt, Loki instead found himself at the God Quarry at the end of infinity. Despite praying for oblivion, it was decreed by this immense source of cosmic power that Loki would serve his penance before dying would be allowed, tasked with assembling the greatest version of Avengers from across realities to protect the multiverse itself as the new Avenger Prime.

It seems the God Quarry has an ironic sense of humor. However, Lokis have been officially confirmed as multiversal constants, the predominant reason why Avengers assemble across countless realities. As such, it makes sense that the ultimate Loki would bring together the Multiverse's Mightiest Heroes after defeating the most dangerous villains the Marvel Universe has to offer. Avengers #65 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
