Tammy Slaton from 1000-lb Sisters has said things without regard to how they will affect the people around her. Her family has tried to help her toward a healthier lifestyle in any way they can. Despite their support and encouragement, she has said some hurtful and insensitive things, particularly towards her younger sister, Amy Halterman.
Amy wanted to successfully lose weight with Tammy so they could both get bariatric surgery together. Amy did her best to support Tammy to make their goal a reality. She did Tammy’s grocery shopping, helped her cook, thought of fun ideas to exercise, and took her to doctor appointments. Whenever Tammy faced setbacks and failures, she was quick to blame it on Amy instead of taking any accountability.
Tammy never held back her anger and frustration and would often lash out at Amy. She would minimize Amy’s emotions and prioritize herself over everything else. Tammy always felt that she had a worse set of circumstances than her younger sister and, therefore, Amy had no right to complain about anything. This negative attitude led Tammy to say some shockingly horrific things to Amy throughout 1000 lb Sisters.
Amy’s Pain
From the start, Tammy took advantage of Amy and always expected her to do everything. When Amy encouraged Tammy to start trying to take care of herself, she became extremely frustrated. Tammy had many reasons why she couldn’t get up and move around, mainly because she was in pain. Amy explained that she was also hurting and had difficulties. Tammy felt her 1000 lb Sisters costar was using it as an excuse because Amy didn’t weigh as much and couldn’t be in as much pain as Tammy. She told Amy, “Shut up and leave it. You don’t understand. Yes, you are big. Yes, you have problems too, but they aren’t the same as my problems.”
Amy’s Pregnancy Announcement
It has always been Amy’s dream to be a mother, but her weight was holding her back. After receiving bariatric surgery, Amy was instructed not to get pregnant right away so her body could have time to heal. When she found out that she was pregnant, she couldn’t wait to share the news with Tammy. When Amy called her with the life-changing announcement, the 1000 lb Sisters star didn’t get the reaction she expected. Amy was shocked and shared with Tammy that she made Michael check the pregnancy test four times to ensure it was accurate, and Amy jokingly said she thought that he was lying to her when he said it was positive. Instead of sharing in Amy’s pregnancy update, Tammy responded by saying, “I wish he was lying to you.” In a moment with producers, Tammy elaborated on her reaction, explaining that she didn’t know what to say when she heard the news. When producers asked her how she felt about Amy’s pregnancy, she told them that she was tired of hearing about it.
Tammy’s Prescriptions
When Tammy returned home from rehab, Amy helped her to get settled in. The help included calling to get the medications she needed to have refilled. The representative Amy was speaking to also needed to speak to Tammy to get more information regarding her medical history Instead of being thankful that Amy was trying to do all she could to help her, Tammy got angry and upset because she interrupted the YouTube video that she was making. Tammy yelled at Amy, saying, “I can’t stop and do it! Shut up and get in the house!” After finally taking the call, Tammy told the representative, “I don’t know why my stupid sister couldn’t do this.”
Since Tammy and Amy lived right next door to each other, Amy had most of the responsibility of caring for Tammy. Once Amy got married and gave birth to her son Gage Halterman, their relationship quickly changed. Amy realized that she could no longer be a full-time mom and full-time caretaker for Tammy. Instead of being met with understanding and compassion, Tammy was irritated and didn’t give Amy credit for all she had and still continues to do. When 1000-lb Sisters returns, hopefully, Tammy will learn not to take her family for granted.
