In the modern world of Hollywood, there’s one type of film that has slowly risen above the rest: Reboots. Reboots have become more and more frequent in recent years, ranging from mediocre to groundbreaking. One such reboot many fans are hoping joins the groundbreaking category is the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot.

Based on the game franchise and the 1995 film, the Mortal Kombat reboot is set to feature many fan favorites while also excluding a few as well. As such, here are five characters confirmed to appear and five fans would love to see in the Mortal Kombat reboot.

Confirmed: Scorpion

If there’s one character who was always going to be in the reboot, it’s the fan-favorite ninja of vengeance, Scorpion. One of the original MK characters, Scorpion has been a mainstream character for years and definitely deserves his chance to shine again on the big screen.

Actor Hiroyuki Sanda has the honor of donning the yellow mask and will hopefully give an awesome MK character performance fans will love. All one can hope is that his classic GET OVER HERE line will make an appearance as well.

Love To See: Ermac

Ermac From Mortal Kombat X

Every MK fan knows that some of the best characters of the game come in the form of the multi-colored ninja characters. From the blue sub-zero to the green reptile, there’s so many of them the not all will get their chance on the big screen.

One who does, however, is the red-colored ninja, Ermac. A combination of dead souls held together in a single body, Ermac would bring a sense of horror to the film that no other could and be a true delight to watch.

Confirmed: Nitara

With a roster spanning multiple decades, the amount of MK characters is endless and yet, many seem to fade into the background, becoming forgotten. When it comes to the world of Hollywood, however, the most obscure characters can shine bright.

Nitara, who will be played by Elissa Cadwell in the reboot, Nitara is a vampire who has been considered to be an underrated character in the world of MK. With her big-screen debut imminent, this vampire will hopefully rise to the fame and glory she deserves.

Love To See: Kitana

It goes without saying that Mortal Kombat is home to some of the most badass women out there. The list is endless and yet, towards the top of it is one warrior princess fans would love to see, the deadly Kitana.

The adopted daughter of the brutal emperor Shao Khan, Kitana slowly evolved through the series, becoming both a fan favorite and a powerful figure in the series. Kitana would be a worthy addition to the cast and would be quite an interesting character to watch in action.

Confirmed: Mileena

Surprisingly, while Kitana is not set to appear in the reboot, her sister is. Mileena will be played by Sisi Stringer, is a bit of a strange and disturbing addition to the film, given her past.

Mileena, the other daughter of Shao Khan, is actually a clone of Kitana with quite the defect. Equipped with razor-sharp teeth protruding from her mouth, Mileena will be a fine addition to reboot and will without a doubt help bring some of the live-action fatalities the directors promised to life.

Love To See: Havik

Love To See Havik

In the realm of Mortal Kombat, there are characters who delight, and then there are characters who terrify us. From Ermac to Mileena, there are plenty of gruesome Mk characters but none take the cake quite like Havik.

Residing in Chaosrealm and lying in the grey area between hero and villain, Havik is a psychopath who fits in well with the rest of the MK characters. From brutal fatalities to horrifying character design, Havik would make quite the impact if he were to appear in the reboot.

Confirmed: Liu Kang

It’s only fitting that one of the main heroes of the MK world will show up in the reboot. Liu Kang is considered in both the games and the 95 films to be the chosen one, destined to best the Mortal Kombat and save Earthrealm.

With actor Luidi Lin coming into the role of champion of Earthrealm, Liu Kang’s MK reboot appearance will hopefully be one to remember. With luck, Luidi can do the character justice and give us a Liu Kang performance for the books.

Love To See: Erron Black

Love To See Erron Black

While the old Mortal Kombat games have been considered to be the greatest of all time, some of the newer games have been met with mixed receptions, mainly some of the characters. One who has stood out, however, is the gunslinger Erron Black.

A bounty hunter who has the look and feel of a cowboy, Erron Black would be an interesting addition to the film. Even if it’s just a small cameo appearance, it would bring the newer games into the film universe in a way yet to be seen.

Confirmed: Shang Tsung

When it comes to choosing the main villain, the treacherous sorcerer Shang Tsung is a worthy and deadly pick. An immortal sorcerer and the master of the Mortal Kombat, Shang Tsung will be a worthy foe to watch once more.

Set to be played by Chin Han, Shang Tsung is an awesome character who deserves to get another chance on the big screen following the 1995 film. Hopefully, Han can bring the same amount of energy and malice that the original actor did and maybe even outdo him.

Love To See: Shao Kahn

Besides Shang Tsung, there’s no villain viler than the likes of Shao Kahn. Emperor of Outworld, the Kahn is a foe not be trifled with, equipped with a massive hammer and strength unlike any other character.

While Shang Tsung would bring a sense of treachery and fear to the film, Shao Kahn would be able to serve as a Thanos type character. Whether he’s actually in the film or a post-credit scene, Shao Kahn could set the stage for an MK sequel and show us his terrible power.
