Rain, one of the few additional characters coming to Mortal Kombat 11, has received a dedicated gameplay trailer showing off his brutal watery abilities and a juicy Fatality. Rain is included in Kombat Pack 2 alongside Mileena and a guest fighter Rambo.

Originally, the upcoming DLC was hinted at by Ed Boon in a promising tweet, which was later accompanied by an eloquent teaser hinting at Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo. On top of that, one of the previous cryptic teases by the Mortal Kombat co-creator suggested a possible addition of Rain to the roster. Interestingly, all of the assumptions were eventually confirmed via the official Kombat Pack 2 reveal trailer featuring both of the teased fighters along with long-awaited Mileena who’s back from the grave in all of her predatory beauty.

NetherRealm has shown Rain, the recently revealed additional character for Mortal Kombat 11, in a dedicated gameplay trailer highlighting his battling style and featuring brutal fights against Kotal Kahn, Shao Kahn, and Sindel. A master water bending, Rain efficiently makes use of his water-based abilities to defeat the opponents. His battle techniques range from casting deceptively tiny thunderclouds over enemies’ heads to bringing them down by human-sized tsunami waves. Needless to say, the spells look mesmerizing, and with modern technologies and animations, various violent water shapes cast by Rain give a believable impression. Additionally, the trailer demonstrates several available cosmetic variants for the demi-god with each giving him a unique look. The video wraps up with a terrifyingly violent Fatality, which makes peaceful water look scary enough to result in severe symptoms of aquaphobia.

Rain originates from Mortal Kombat 3 initially being the result of the developers’ foolery with Prince’s popular song Purple Rain. Granted, the character is purple in the game, but while his addition was somewhat of a silly joke, he managed to become an established warrior in the franchise’s fighting universe. The Edenian prince - which is yet another pun on the source material the character is based on - was given the power to control water so that the element could be turned into a frightening weapon.

Started as a lazy purple color variant of the default ninja skin in earlier versions of Mortal Kombat, Rain has evolved into a unique and wholesome character over the years. In Mortal Kombat 11, he’s arguably at his peak form with fluid animations, a set of distinctive abilities, and an impressive fighting style. He does look like a potential fan-favorite kombatant serving as a solid argument for purchasing Kombat Pack 2, which is included in the upcoming Ultimate Edition.
