Mortal Kombat 11 has confirmed its latest roster member, as a reveal trailer released earlier today to showcase Kotal Kahn. Unfortunately for Kahn, though, the trailer doesn't exactly go the way he would probably have liked, showcasing him getting completely demolished by Jacqui Briggs, another character fans already knew would be featured in the upcoming game.

Mortal Kombat 11 isn't shying away from embracing the game's ridiculous nature, whether it be in gameplay footage or in narrative. Mortal Kombat 11 will feature a heavy dose of time-traveling shenanigans that will see Johnny Cage meet with himself, alongside other, much less earth-shattering, moments. Mortal Kombat 11's fatalities have been a major part of its marketing as well, with an emphasis being placed on creative, brutal executions that make the game's early variants of gruesome look like Saturday morning cartoons.

Kotal Kahn's reveal trailer is so subtly funny that it might not actually be intentional. The character is introduced like the hulking brute he is, an Osh-Tekk warrior who also just so happens to be the Emperor of Outworld. He's described as a nuanced man, one who had to save the Empire from chaos while struggling to avoid becoming the same brutal oppressor his predecessors had been, even while he begins to loss control of the people he wanted to liberate. Apparently, Kotal uses the power of the sun to strengthen his abilities and beat up on opponents, though you would never know from the trailer. Take a look here:

Sure, Kotal manages to get a few moves in. As the trailer begins to progress, though, you'd be forgiven for wondering if you might have mistake who was who, and contemplate whether or not Jacqui Briggs might also moonlight as the emperor of another plane of existence. Unfortunately, though, that's not the case, and Kotal Kahn's reveal trailer is capped by the newly-introduced warrior getting his head blown off and a grenade shoved down his throat.

Not exactly a glamorous introduction, although at least Briggs came out of it looking like a total badass, which might be the actual intent. A character that can invade another fighter's reveal trailer, beat them down in a one-sided stomp, and then eviscerate them before mugging for the camera at the end? That's a personality to watch, and while it's coming at the expense of Kotal Kahn - again, a Mortal Kombat 11 fighter who is only just being confirmed, both for the roster and as a total pushover - at the very least a star is being made after all.
