Joker from the Batman franchise is being added into the roster of Mortal Kombat 11, and a new trailer has been released on YouTube showing off gameplay. Mortal Kombat 11 was developed by NetherRealm Studios and released on May 10th, 2019. The game uses a heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 3. Mortal Kombat 11 has received generally favorable reviews but, despite its incredible visuals and tight gameplay mechanics, was criticized very heavily for its use of microtransactions. In May 2019 it became the best selling game of the year at that point.

The first Mortal Kombat game released back in 1992, and was originally conceived of because the developers wanted to make a game starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. This premise quickly fell through and instead developers decided to make a fantasy themed fighting game. The series can be credited with a lot of firsts in the video game industry. Mortal Kombat was the first video game franchise to have a movie based off of it. The series can also be credited with accidentally starting the ESRB video game rating system. The high levels of violence and blood in Mortal Kombat were so controversial that the US government created the rating system. Despite it's controversies the Mortal Kombat franchise has since become one of the highest grossing and most popular video game series of all time.

The official Mortal Kombat YouTube channel posted a video detailing Joker's combat style and his gruesome new fatalities. Joker looks much like he does in the Batman: Arkham games, with his trademark purple suit and green hair. While fighting other combatants he uses a combination of a crowbar, guns, and bombs to incapacitate them. The fatalities themselves look to be particularly gruesome. One shows him beating Baraka to death with the crowbar as blood covers the screen. Joker's finisher shows him giving Baraka a cake with a lit candle in it. The cake explodes and blows Baraka into little pieces that Joker then shoots with a machine gun.

Joker comes as part of a character pack for the fighting game. The character pack is called the Kombat Pack and the characters have been releasing as part of a schedule. Players already have access to normal Mortal Kombat characters Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, and Sindel when they released last year. Joker is next in the lineup and his release is set for January 28th. There have been two other interesting non-Mortal Kombat additions though. The Terminator T-800 was added back in October and popular comic book character Spawn is coming in March.

New Mortal Kombat characters are always an exciting ordeal. Since the game came out last year most players have found a way to master the game and discover which character best suits their playstyle. New character additions shake the game up in interesting ways as players will now have to rediscover a whole new set of abilities. Joker will fit in perfect with the roster of Mortal Kombat 11.
