The co-creator of Mortal Kombat and Injustice has revealed on Twitter that one of his biggest dream match ups would be between Batman and Spider-Man. It isn't exactly new for fighting games like Soulcalibur and Mortal Kombat to pit characters from other franchises against each other, but this is something that would probably take a lot of work and cooperation between several companies to make happen.
Mortal Kombat 11 is the most recent entry in the long-running franchise, and it has provided players with many opportunities for dream battles by adding in a slew of different action movie stars and DC Comics characters. Recently Mortal Kombat 11 added both Rambo and The Terminator, which has allowed fans to fulfill one of the greatest fantasy matchups of the 1980s. Mortal Kombat 11 has also added Robocop, The Joker, and Spawn, and there are rumors suggesting that there will be a few more licensed DLC characters coming soon.
Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios Ed Boon states that he would love to eventually see a match up between two of the most popular superheroes of all time: Batman and Spider-Man. This was actually in response to a Tweet from the former Creative Director of the God of War franchise, David Jaffe. Jaffe tagged Boon in a Tweet thanking him for allowing the ability to pit The Joker and Rambo against each other in a fight to the the death, which prompted Boon to reveal his idea.
Ever since the Mortal Kombat games began adding in characters from different properties, many began speculating on what was planned next and which characters should be added. Mortal Kombat X was the first game to really do this when it added several different horror movie villains, like Jason, Freddy Krueger, and the Predator. With all of the action movie stars that are present in Mortal Kombat 11, quite a few people have created their own suggestions for which action movie characters should be added next.
One of the biggest past times of comic book fans is asking the age old question of, "Who would win in a fight?". Games like Injustice were perfect for answering these questions by allowing players to pit their favorite DC characters against each other. Ed Boon is definitely on to something though by wishing he could see a fight between a DC character like Batman and a Marvel hero like Spider-Man. Here's hoping that we can see this in the next Mortal Kombat or Injustice game.
