Any lawbreakers in the world of Mortal Kombat 11 might wish to rethink their criminal ways, as the iconic cyborg policeman RoboCop is coming to the game alongside returning Kombatants Fujin and Sheeva in the newly announced Aftermath DLC expansion on May 26. For the uninitiated, RoboCop was once Alex Murphy, an honest Detroit City police officer in a dystopian future who was brutally murdered by a criminal gang in a bust gone wrong, only to be rebuilt as the ultimate law enforcer at the behest of the Omni Consumer Products corporation in the hit 1987 feature film.
For the first time in franchise history, it was revealed that Mortal Kombat 11 would be getting additional, post-release story content yesterday, with a brief video clip hinting at the return of original villain Shang Tsung to the plot following his introduction as a DLC fighter in the game’s first wave of bonus content last July. This comes alongside rumors of further guest fighters such as the long-hinted at Ash Williams of the Evil Dead franchise coming to the game, which seems to have been partially confirmed with the latest DLC announcement, at least when it comes to getting more fighters.
Earlier today, the full trailer for Mortal Kombat 11’s new story expansion, subtitled Aftermath, was posted to the official Mortal Kombat YouTube channel, featuring restored heroes and gods of Earthrealm Raiden and Liu Kang as they strike up an uneasy alliance with Shang Tsung. After several story clips and gameplay footage of the aforementioned Fujin and Sheeva, the trailer cuts to a squad of police officers being outmatched by an unseen enemy, requiring them to call for backup in the form of RoboCop, who draws his iconic handgun and declares that whoever he’s currently up against is “under arrest.”
It has been confirmed that Peter Weller, who famously portrayed the titular character in the first two RoboCop films, will reprise his role for RoboCop’s appearance in Mortal Kombat 11. This should be welcome news to fans, as while Keith David and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa lent their iconic voices to previous guest fighters Spawn and Shang Tsung respectively, Arnold Schwarzenegger did not return to voice the classic T-800 Terminator when he joined the gory festivities in October.
The Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath trailer features a lot of intriguing content for fans of NetherRealm’s latest fighting game outing, with the arrival of RoboCop as a guest fighter being the icing on the proverbial cake. The resurrected robotic lawman of Old Detroit is a fan favorite icon of the late 80s to early 90s, and he should feel right at home in the murder-and-gore-filled world of Mortal Kombat given his own experiences in the gritty, cyberpunk setting of his home franchise. Players will get the chance to lay down the law as RoboCop himself when the Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath DLC is released on May 26.
