A leaked email from publisher Warner Bros. Interactive has provided more evidence that Evil Dead's Ash Williams will be joining the fight in Mortal Kombat 11 as DLC. The character's name was previously pulled from the game files by dataminers ahead of MK11's release in April of last year.

Developed by NetherRealm Studios, Mortal Kombat 11 was the most recent edition to the classic series of fighting games and one of the best-selling titles of 2019. Longtimes series favorites Shang Tsung, Nightwolf and Sindel were added to the game's extensive roster as part of the Kombat Pack DLC. They were joined by iconic characters like The Joker from DC Comics, the T-800 Terminator, modeled after Terminator series star Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Todd McFarlane's Spawn, who was just released this month. Meanwhile, Ash is undeniably one of the most iconic characters in horror; famously portrayed by Bruce Campbell in three films, a critically-acclaimed TV series and multiple video games.

The latest information on Ash joining the Mortal Kombat 11's roster of fighters comes via IGN, who received an email with the character's name contained within its text. In the email footer, all of the previously released DLC characters are name-checked along with their respective copyright and trademark information. So, too, is Ash and Army of Darkness, the third installment in the original Evil Dead trilogy of films. IGN has reached out to WB Interactive for comment on the matter, but given the fact that this was discovered in an official email, it would seem Ash is essentially confirmed as a future addition to Mortal Kombat 11 in some way, shape or form, even as Campbell has denied as much in the past.

In addition to appearing in games specifically inspired by the Evil Dead universe, Ash also joined the cast of the multiplayer survival horror Dead By Daylight as a playable character. Campbell voiced the character, which was based on its Ash vs Evil Dead iteration.

If Ash is truly coming to Mortal Kombat 11 as a playable character, which feels more than likely at this point, the character is an inspired edition to the franchise. The Evil Dead universe and Ash specifically are defined as much by their humor and cheesiness as their graphic nature, extreme gore and horror elements; few game series have managed to strike that same balance as well Mortal Kombat. In other words, Ash and his sawed-off, double-barreled shotgun, chainsaw and "Groooovy!" catchphrase should feel right at home in the Netherrealm.
