Mortal Kombat 11's DLC Fighters Will Be Revealed Next Week

Mortal Kombat 11 DLC Fighters Reveal Next Week

Series creator and all-around fighting game legend Ed Boon announced late yesterday that the Mortal Kombat 11 DLC fighters would be revealed sometime next week. Fans already know one fighter they'll be receiving: the iconic Shang Tsung, a villain from the franchise who is perhaps best known for his starring role as the antagonist during the Mortal Kombat film.

In fact, developer NetherRealm Studios is counting on fans remembering him through that lens, as the studio recreated the new, aged Shang Tsung based on the actor who portrayed him in the film, even getting Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa to reprise his role as the character in Mortal Kombat 11. There's been little discussed about the Mortal Kombat 11 DLC fighters beyond the inclusion of Shang Tsung, though, so speculation on who they might be has been largely limited to a previous Mortal Kombat 11 leak that, while unconfirmed, offers a lot of enticing options for DLC, including hits like Joker and Spawn.

In a tweet sent out by Ed Boon late yesterday, however, it was confirmed that speculation on the Mortal Kombat 11 DLC fighters won't last much longer. The co-creator of Mortal Kombat and Injustice sent out a message that suggested the reveal could happen as early as next week, although it came with the caveat (or is that kaveat?) that things needed to go "well," whatever that might mean. Here's Boon's tweet, complete with a reference to the movie Shang Tsung for extra nostalgia:

There's not much to go on in with regard to any hints from the tweet, since Boon was careful to center it around the already known Shang Tsung DLC addition. Still, the earlier Mortal Kombat 11 DLC fighter leak has given fans plenty to debate about. For reference, those leaks suggested these characters would be added to the title as DLC: Shang Tsung (confirmed), Joker, Nightwolf, Terminator, Sindel, Spawn, Ash, Fujin, and Sheeva. Interestingly, Ash in Mortal Kombat 11 has already been shot down by Bruce Campbell himself, so its unclear whether or not the leaks were inaccurate or if Ash refers to a Mortal Kombat-specific fighter.

Mortal Kombat 11 was a huge success for NetherRealm Studios, despite the developer coming under fire for a grindy microtransaction system that was later fixed and the kind of developer crunch that the industry has been actively attempting to fight over the past year. Some positivity surrounding the title would be a nice break for fans of the series, and the Mortal Kombat 11 DLC fighter announcement will provide just that in the coming days.
