Morgan Freeman Accused Of Harassment, Inappropriate Behavior [Updated]

Morgan Freeman Transcendence

It seems that Morgan Freeman is joining the ranks of such actors as Bill Cosby, Jeffrey Tambour and Kevin Spacey. There are now a number of allegations against Freeman claiming he sexually harassed women on the sets of several of the movies he starred in.

Freeman, at 80 years old, is one of the most accomplished and recognized actors in the industry. He has many Academy and Golden Globe award nominations under his belt and even won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2005 for his role on Million Dollar Baby. He is a global superstar who also portrayed God in two movies, as well as Lucius Fox in the Christopher Nolan Batman films. He is also known for his stellar narration of the nature documentary March of the Penguins.

According to CNN, several women have come forward to share stories of how Freeman sexually harassed them, or acted inappropriately with them, on set. A senior production member of the staff of Now You See Me, spoke about how the women around Freeman altered their appearance and behavior to prevent his unwanted attention:

"He did comment on our bodies... We knew that if he was coming by ... not to wear any top that would show our breasts, not to wear anything that would show our bottoms, meaning not wearing clothes that [were] fitted."

UPDATE: When THR reached out for comment about the accusations, a rep for Freeman provided a statement from the actor:

Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy. I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected - that was never my intent.

This is just one of several allegations, though. Another woman shared her story from working with the actor on Going In Style,  commenting about how he touched her without her consent, as well as how he tried to lift up her skirt on more than one occasion. CNN spoke to 16 people about Freeman's behavior, with eight of the women admitting that Freeman had acted inappropriately with them. They only now chose to speak up because at the time they worked with Freeman, they feared losing their jobs if they spoke up.

This is a disturbing revelation about a revered actor, but it is only one of many that have come to light since Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein faced similar accusations, especially with Cosby being found guilty of sexual assault in a court of law. The #MeToo movement has unveiled a very dirty side to Hollywood that will probably never get swept back under the red carpet again. This discussion is an important one, and will, hopefully, change the way that sexual harassment is handled, not just in Hollywood, but everywhere else.
