After weeks of teasing, Morgan Jones (Lennie James) was finally revealed as the character that will crossover from The Walking Dead to Fear the Walking Dead. Fans knew that this news was coming, as AMC announced a couple days back that the crossover character would be revealed on tonight's episode of Talking Dead. Now, all that's left to do is to wonder just how this TWD veteran will fare over on the landscape of Fear TWD. One may be a spinoff of the other, but the shows don't always operate the same way.

In the few years since Fear the Walking Dead premiered, the TWD franchise powers that be were always quick to deny that plans for the two apocalyptic series to crossover were in the works. After all, the two series take place at different points in the outbreak's timeline, and Fear doesn't seem to be in a hurry to catch up to its progenitor. With that in mind, fans were shocked by AMC's early October reveal that one character would crossover from one Robert Kirkman-based series to the other.

The most common guess as to who the crossover character would be has been Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz), who ceased to be part of the main TWD show after getting his brains bashed in by Negan and the murderous despot's signature weapon Lucille. Abraham did return for a flashback scene near the end of season 7 though, and Cudlitz has made it known publicly that he'd love to continue playing the character. However, it's now readily apparent that the common wisdom was wrong, as very few guessed that Morgan would be making the jump between shows.

Lennie James as Morgan in The Walking Dead season 8 premiere

Timeline-wise, Morgan my actually be the perfect character to crossover from TWD to Fear. After befriending Rick early in the outbreak, Morgan disappeared, and wouldn't be seen again until near the end of season 3. Only bits and pieces of what Morgan was up to between losing touch with Rick and his return in the TWD episode 'Clear' have been revealed to the audience, leaving lots of potential to explore the events that led to the character's crazed state by the time he encountered Rick again. Fear TWD season 4 begins filming tomorrow, and Lennie James will be there.

That said, just because James will soon join the cast of Fear TWD, doesn't mean Morgan's time on the main Walking Dead series is quite finished. As stated by TWD showrunner Scott Gimple following the big Talking Dead announcement, Morgan "has a lot of story left on The Walking Dead" and "Morgan’s arc on The Walking Dead season 8 positioned him for the story on Fear." While that still doesn't provide fans many clues about what Morgan will be up to on Fear, it's probably the closest to in-depth insight that will be offered for awhile.
