Morbius was bookended by a seemingly nonsensical post-credit scene involving Michael Keaton's Vulture, but it may actually have secretly hinted at a long-running rumor regarding the return of Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man. The scene takes its cues from the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, revealing that the MCU's Adrian Toomes, a.k.a. the Vulture, has been transported to Morbius's universe, sometimes referred to as the Venomverse or the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters. Toomes meets up with Dr. Michael Morbius, having apparently gotten his hands on a new Vulture flight suit--an anomaly that may not be as unexplainable as it seems.

While the future of the Venomverse and Morbius himself is uncertain, the film's post-credit scenes certainly generated plenty of buzz among confused viewers, many of whom wondered how Adrian Toomes was able to acquire another Vulture suit when his own remained on Earth-616. The tease received heavy criticism based on its shoddy, almost robotic script and apparent lapse in logic, which only added to the growing movement of meme-ing Morbius. However, while the film is certainly deeply flawed in many ways, this particular criticism may be unfounded when one considers where Toomes may have gotten his new Vulture flight suit and what this scene might actually be teasing.

Vulture's Morbius Suit Connects To The Amazing Spider-Man

There is actually a perfect explanation as to how Vulture got his new suit in Morbius, one which connects directly to Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man universe. One of the final sequences for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 teased a litany of upcoming villains who would never see the light of day, as the franchise was summarily canceled in favor of an MCU reboot shortly after the film's release. These teases included Doctor Octopus's iconic arms, a new suit for the Rhino, and a flight suit designed for the Vulture himself. It may be that this infamous tease has come to fruition after all in the form of Morbius's post-credit scene.

Toomes's suit does appear to resemble that seen in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, possibly plugging Morbius's most puzzling plot hole. While it is difficult to say for certain that these suits are actually one and the same, the design is at the very least similar, implying that Vulture may have stolen his new rig from The Amazing Spider-Man's Oscorp. Furthermore, if this is indeed the Vulture suit seen in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the true setting of Morbius and all other films in the Venomverse is therefore also revealed to be Earth-120703, the Multiversal designation of Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man movies.

Morbius' Post-Credit Scene Hints That Andrew Garfield Will Return As Spider-Man

Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man in No Way Home

At long last, Sony finally appears to be hinting at a Spider-Man for its shared universe, with Andrew Garfield high on the list of possibilities. After the shock cancelation of The Amazing Spider-Man 3, it appeared as though many of Andrew Garfield's future stories as Spider-Man would never come to fruition. However, if Vulture's suit is truly the one first built by Oscorp in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, there is no denying that the Venomverse is building to an appearance from Garfield's Spider-Man, who would be a delight to see return, especially after his iconic redemption during the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

As the Sinister Six continues to form in upcoming films like Kraven the Hunter, Venom 3, and other installments of Sony's Spider-Man Universe, the team of supervillains will inevitably need a hero to battle against. And, while the identity of the full Sinister Six in the Venomverse remains unknown, the more important question is which version of the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man the team will face when they finally form. However, if the events of Morbius are any indication, that Spider-Man variant will indeed be Andrew Garfield, who can now finally fulfill his full potential as the web-slinging superhero after being denied the opportunity for so long.
